Deckdout2's Replacement Car

Congrats man. Sweet ride. My g/f has a new Jetta fully loaded and I was really impressed with the fit and finish of the interior, especially for an entry-level car. I can only imagine your interior. Figured I'd mention it since they're related...sorta....lol

NICE!
I've been doing some research on the A4 as a possible new ride. I love the Ibis White and have always been a fan of Audi since my pops had a '86 5000 (IIRC)
Any plans to gloss black the grill or some VAG codes upgrades?
Also, I'll be in Germany in two weeks and will be visiting the Audi Museum in Ingolstadt.

That's going to be awesome! Take plenty of pictures, I'd love to see that. The B8's are great, I hope you find your way into one!

Very very very nice upgrade! I always admired your maxima, but I think you outdid yourself with this!
Quick question: can you speak about why the car was shipped? I was wondering about buying on ebay and it would be nice to have a firsthand account of the due diligence required, etc, when going through with something like that.

I think I purchased and have sold all my past cars for myself and my dad out of state. I usually know what I want in options and such and most of the time there is nothing local that meets those needs. The only other car I purchased from a local dealership in my years for myself is my 4th gen back in '99 when I was a noob to the Maxima world.
I bought my 5.5gen from New Jersey, shipped my 93 Legend Coupe to Hawaii, bought my dad's 95 Camry from TX, and bought this one from Washington State. Cost associated was; $600 for my 5.5gen from NJ (open carrier), $2000 for my Legend Coupe (open carrier to California, and by boat to Hawaii), $800 for my dad's Camry (open carrier), and $1800 for the S4 (enclosed carrier). From past experiences with road grim and debris shipping in an open carrier even from just NJ, the S4 had to be in a enclosed carrier, especially from that far away.
My deal with the S4 can be summed up to this; Called the private seller, spoke to him multiple times regarding purchasing the car. Decided to purchase, worked on the purchase price and other negotiations over the phone. Settled the funding for the car, down payment, bank loan, wire transfer, and such with the bank and seller. Agreement with the seller that as soon as funds clear on the wire (or however you send payment), he overnights the title and bill of sale to you, while either party arranges shipping. You probably want to get rates before hand during the funding arrangements to save time. Check in with the seller to get the shipper's contact info, and eta on arrival. Contact driver periodically to check on eta. Purchase arrives and inspect vehicle prior to signing delivery sheet and take possession. That's very important cause if you find something wrong that wasn't there and you sign off on the delivery it might be harder to make your claim.
It's not too difficult, just a little more leg work then just purchasing locally. However if it's something you want it will be worth it in the end. I was working on the deal for the S4 for about a month, before it actually arrived on my doorstep. I just so happened to get lucky and sold the Maxima around the same time. It's very common now a days to buy from out of state and have a car shipped. My other friends (previous org members) have purchased from out of state and flown up to get the car and drive it home. It's just personal preference, but I like the element of surprise and less hassle I guess, that and on top of not being keen to flying too much. lol
Hope this helps, and let me know if you have anymore questions.

first off thanks for the nice info on shipping cars and providing rough numbers and multiple scenarios... great stuff to know.
2nd its such an exciting time in beginning stages the mod phases. planning everything out and seeing it come together.

Thanks man! Mods aren't as vast as the 3.5 motor, and I've got them all already so I'm limited a little, but I'd like to see anything over 400awhp. Looks like I might be sitting a little shy of that around 380, but I won't know for sure until I hit the dyno again. I might be closer with 100 Oct which I also have a map for. The longtube headers would surely push me past that mark, however I'm not prepared to drop the motor to install headers on this new of a car yet. I just have to wait till more stuff comes out at the moment.

will you be my sugar daddy?! lol
progress on this is tough man...JEEEEEEEEZUS! i'm curious though, i know money isnt really an issue, so why do you always decide on springs opposed to coilovers?! i remember you had springs on the max, and i see you have it on this as well. i mean the drop is perfect on those wheels, i just wanna know

After multiple sets of springs/shocks combo on the Max then finally going to coilovers, I was deadset on noting but coilovers from then on out on anything I got. That was suppose to be the case on this car, however.........I have ADS (Audi Drive Select) on this car, which with the push of a button controls the Engine, Shifts, Steering, and Suspension. The option is quite expensive, but is so advanced, that everything works together flawlessly. Well, if I went with coilovers as originally planned, I lose the Suspension function all together, and I like the adjust ability of it on the fly. This was the only springs out there that gave me the drop I wanted and kept my ADS intact. I was hesitant on the ride, not knowing what my end result will be. After riding around with them on, it was actually much better than I thought. Not harsh at all, but stiff enough to be as sporty as coilovers. I also still get to keep my, "Comfort", "Auto", "Individual", and "Dynamic" ADS modes working properly. All in all I'm very happy with these springs, H&R did a good job with them. On anything else or if I didn't have ADS, it would have been coilovers no questions asked.....
