i call her MAXINE

let me start off buy saying, this is my 3rd maxima. ive owned a 95 max (auto) and an 00 max (auto). i sold both of those and wanted something 5spd. so i picked up this 99 maxima se

i paid $2900 for her today. i do realize that i paid too much and i ef'd up. but im happy. anyways. this will be my build/mod thread to show progress of Maxine.

she has a salvage/rebuilt title (didnt even bother looking at the title until i got home). was originally white, has been painted. 153078 miles

she pulls hard. as soon as i get insurance and can actually drive her out in the real world, ill get a video.
-new tires. i need to get them exchanged bc the idiot who got them got the wrong size. so one rubs during hard turning and the speedo is off by 5mph.
-debadged the trunk. will get a pic soon.
-has a pioneer radio and hook ups for an amp/subs in the trunk. (saves me the work, but ill double check everything to make sure he did it right)

more to come

Looking at the pictures, I'll stick my neck out and say that the pull is because of something in the right front suspension.

As long as the interior, engine and trans are in good shape, its probably a good deal.

oh, i didnt mean pull as in it needs an alignment, i meant pull, as in it hauls *** and has you reaching for your seat belt or "oh sh*t handle"

um, pics of the interior tomorrow.

haha. well how many other people do you know with their maximas name as maxine?

and it has 153078 miles. or something like that.

so i had to work yesterday, but today i got some progress done. i managed to figure out where the car took the damage. on the right front (which would explain why only that side rubs.) i was looking around the area for fog lights so i could add some, and thats when i noticed the front end was "thrown" back together with random pieces of metal. when i get the chance, ill take off the front bumper and fender and possibly take it into my schools ag shop and see if i can get rid of the ugly job they (whomever tried to fix it) did.

i also grabbed a small 50 watt amp and tried installing it with my subs. i need to first get insurance and registration done, then ill have money for other stuff. anyways, no luck with the amp. it shows that it is turned on, but i think it is shot. oh well. anyways, for the trunk i have 2 10" pioneers in a box. non ported. and i have 2 10" jensens in a ported box w/ plexiglass covering. ill get pics tomorrow before work.

thats about it, besides taking apart part of the dash to make sure the radio was wired in correctly and to see if it had any other outputs on it.

damn. well, the name is already stuck in my head and well known to people i know. so its staying.

got pics today. im looking at getting black vents, black window controls, the large black cover that is right below the steering wheel, and a new shift dash piece.

last owner got paint on the clear gauge covering and tried to wipe it off. i used a little nail polish remover and my dremel w/ a buffing pad at low speed to remove alot of the paint. i will probably just buy a new one since it has a heated up burn mark on it. (i had the dremel at too high of a speed)

interior.

subs through the opening in rear seats-

what they normally look like-

jensens. pretty much shot so i dont think i will kepp them in the car.

debadged. i need to get some goo-gone or similar.

thats about it for now.

Nice start man.

If your looking for an alternative for goo-gone than you can always use a clay bar to take it off. Obviously using some spray on wax in the process. Also, with the goo-gone, make sure to wash it off immediately. You don't want it to start fading your paint.

You probably know all this stuff but I'm just throwing it out there just in case.

well i originally had wd-40 was soaking it into the old adhesive. then i would use a scraper. and then use a good old fashion can of spray paint and touch up the paint. which good thing for me, the paints match.

thanks. probably not gonna have much to do for a little bit until i can get some money for insurance and registration. i have to look into getting the tires swapped out. it has 215/65/16 pirellis on it. i need to get 215/55/16 for the speedo to be accurate and the ride to be lower.

yesterday sucked- got pulled over for speeding, but only got a warning which was good.

and today was a good day. went to pick n pull and got what i needed.

4 black door panels, 4 window switches in black (one is tan bc they didnt have a black), 4 black inner door handles, and panel for under steering wheel. gonna get some more money and make a 2nd trip this week to grab dash pieces in black. oh, and got hood struts. got 3 and i think only one works. another kinda works.

heres some pics...

before-

after-

if anyone is interested, i have a bunch of switches, handles, and 4 panels.

sorry about blurry pics.

damn, i need to update more often. well, since getting the door panels, i have dont many various changes.

June 7- got mudflaps, black glovebox, and black kick panels.

june 20- got black dashboard with the help of DennisMik from here. (thanks again man for the help. couldnt have done it without you). also got a black driver side switch cover and black panel piece that goes on the floor by your feet.

june 22- got some used tires mounted on the stock rims. $30 each. tread looks very similar, but no matching brands :/ (raptor, continental, firestone, goodyear) haha. 215/55/16 (stock size).

story- when i went to get the tires swapped out, i noticed i grabbed a tire with a plug in it. i told the guy i didnt want it and he told me to go pick another one out. so i did. when i went back to where they were mounting the tires, i asked where the tire with the plug went. i looked and he had mounted it my rim. i told him he better take it off and give me the tires i want. then after all tires were put back on, the shop offered me $10 for each of my old tires which are pirrellis and have 65%+ left on them. i said no, obviously.

next is suspension, carpet, and headliner

no mods on the auto. parents gave it to me and it had a transmission problem. it had trouble shifting and would "overheat" id say. it was burning tranny fluid. it was pretty fast.

if i had known i would be getting another maxima, i would have kept A LOT of the parts that dont matter when i sold the previous maximas. (mudflaps, locking lugs, wheels, etc)

so i just picked up a new motor today. gotta swap everything over. got it for $325. but first, im tearing down the new motor (new to me. it has 136,xxx miles) and cleaning almost everything. egr tube was semi-clogged. but not completely.

i already cleaned the TB and it looks like new. except for minor scratches made with the screw driver on the butterfly.

i might pick up a parts cleaner to make everything clean thoroughly.
