Talking My First Car is A Maxima!

I recently purchased this car last week for $1800. It is a 1997 Nissan Maxima SE. And it is my first car I've always wanted a 5.5 gen to start but this is just fine. The car also has 135,000 miles on it. I will be leaving it stock for a month or two but i will eventually mod it.

lmk what you think about it and any suggestions you might have!

Nice find! No sunroof and cloth interior = great starting point for a fast and light weight 4th gen. Don't put those boat anchor wheels on it, get some lightweight 16s or 17s imo....

My SE doesn't have leather or fogs. (wired for fogs but I'm sure someone took them)
SE has white gauge cluster so maybe it's a gxe?

I'm guessing that's a GXE (no fogs, black face gauges and the hubcaps are a dead giveaway) but it's alright because it's nice and clean.

Definitely a solid start.

OOO ok. I read on chicagonissanclub that someone sold a maxima to a kid as his first car today for $1800. Too much of a coincidence I guess.

Looks good, not a bad starting point. I got lucky and ended up with a 5.5 as my first car so I know where you're coming from with that. Am I seeing things or is that damage to the fender by the driver side headlight?

+1 on the comment about removing the Maxima emblem about where the idiot before you put it. It looks ridiculous.

Have you had a chance to look under the car?

Reason I ask is because the exhaust looks rusted out. Hopefully it isn't too bad under there.

You did get a really good deal on the GXE though

Looks clean. Please fix that badge on the back, that looks really weird. Good luck with it, keep it clean and take care of it.

If your area uses salt on the roads, check the lower radiator support. It's a common place of disintegration.

Looks very nice. Drive it around and see if you throw any CELs - my sister bought a '96 from an unscrupulous dealer who had reset the lights; they came on right as she pulled into the driveway at home. Way to spoil the honeymoon...

That said, CELs are usually no big deal - you should only be worried if you lose oil pressure, really - and fourth-gens are generally mechanically quite solid, so you're in good shape. I'ma just go ahead and ask you to get that grille painted, though - I can't stand the chrome.

First things first, remove that poorly placed Maxima emblem, paint those wiper arms, throw away that rusty exhaust, and get some new rims.

^ If you do pick up a 99, what of the 5.5? Selling it?
