That is the same pessimistic attitude that kept hundreds of other people from attending the last one. Maxus is what WE all make it out to be. And if you only see it as a car show then perhaps you shouldn't come.

Matt, I see your point and agree with you that alternate locations would be nice. But I'm not going to bite the hand that fed us at this event. Trophy forked out a TON of money for this and they want to make it an annual event that they're hosting. It's a huge gesture on their part, and at this point I think we should accept what's being given to us.

I was around for Maxus 99 and 2000 when it was sponsored by Courtesy. After that, it wasn't ever really a true "Maxus".. just a meet that someone called Maxus. Nobody sponsored the event or did more than just a large meet in a parking lot. This is the first year we've done another large one since I was in Atlanta in 2000 where we had more activities than just standing around jerking off on each others' cars.

I don't honestly care where the next one is, but I think we need to look at who's planning it, what people will show (I'm sure the left coasters aren't going to drive to DC and I'm sure the DC crew isn't going to drive to SoCal.), and what facilities are available then.

We set the date for Maxus 2005 back in June of 2004, and it was planned to go to Ennis and drag race on one of the days, then hit Motorsport Ranch 30 Min from Dallas for the road course. We were shot in the foot when Ennis decided to host a monster truck race the next weekend and cover the dragstrip in 6 ft of dirt.. Motorsport Ranch decided to close its doors because of Formula D in Houston and a Porsche club event at TWS in College Station (the same track we were at).

Next year, none of those will be an issue, as we'll pick a date that works better with the track schedules, and hopefully one that's not so hot.
We also picked June because that way the high school and college kids would be out for the summer and it would make a great road trip.
I'm thinking mid-May next year instead. Most everyone will be out of school then, but it won't be so effin hot as it was in Dallas that weekend.

So lots of things are on the books to happen next year. If you guys want to take over and plan it for your area, go right ahead. Otherwise, I'm going to go with the plans for Dallas again next year because it's a central location, we have ready and willing sponsors, and someof the fastest racetracks and best tuning shops in the country within 1.5 hours of Dallas.

i completely agree with you....if trophy is willing to sponsor this event every year, why deny that?? that's an awesome offer on their part, and it greatly helps the outcome of the events....dallas is also basically in the center of the US which is better since both the east and west coasters are not 3000 miles away from it....IMO, maxus should be scheduled to be hosted by trophy again, but that's just me....

I am not opposed to DFW as an annual location. I just want everyone involved in the discussion and I want more people to show up at the next one.

I know Trophy forked out mucho dinero for the event. But my question is that how much of it went to things that we as a group didn't actually need?

Were they financially responsible for our SpeedZone discount?

Did they sponsor our trip to the dyno?

Did they sponsor your trip to TWS?

Did they sponsor our stay at the motel?

Did they sponsor any other meals than hotdogs and water at the car show?

Did they sponsor anyones trip to Dallas?

Did they have to pay for us to use the mall parking lot?

Surely they did fork out for the radio station but honestly how did that benefit us?

I can make it to Dallas again. Atlanta wouldn't be a bad drive for me either but for those farther west it would be. I still think St. Louis or somewhere in that area would be a good choice.

If we can get it bigger, better, and maybe not too expensive then anywhere in the Central US is fine. The problem is I spend so much going to Maxus that my Maxima is lacking mods.

That was standard group rate at speedzone. Jeff Wharton (Mr Eous) helped get that set up.

Did they sponsor our trip to the dyno?
I pulled some strings with friends in the industry to get Bryce to do the dyno.

I pulled some major strings with Jack Turner at TWS to get that event. I still owe him about 6 days of work at the track too.

Nope, but several of us vendors forked out a few thousand bucks a piece to be there. This wouldn't be their place to do this anyway, unless they were corporately sponsoring a car.

That's between them and the mall, but I called them once and was turned down before Trophy got involved.

It brought attention to the meet, and was supposed to provide us with a PA system.. due to the shape of the lot and the inability for their trucks to get back there, they couldn't wheel out their PA stuff. It stayed in the truck and they dragged out what they could.

They plan to purchase advertising on maxima.org, which will benefit all of us as a whole.

Where did all of the money go?
Staff to run the show- trophies' employees were the ones that actually did the paperwork for most of the event. I was busy trying to keep everything organized with trophy, round up entries for the car show, talk to people, AND run my booth. all of which I did a pretty p!ss poor job if you ask me. too many jobs to do, not enough Me to do it..
employees and vehicles to transport all of the tables, chairs, etc.
tablecloths (not much, but still money when you look at how many were there)
Ice
bottled water (roughly 50 cases of water- an entire truckload of it.)
trophies for the car show (those were some pretty nice trophies, IMO)
gift certificates from the car show.. another few hundred bucks.

I'd make the drive to Dallas again next year. I agree that if Trophy wants to sponsor a yearly event, we should give them first consideration.

Yes, it's a long drive for some of us, but then no location is going to be convenient for everyone.

Chicago was mentioned earlier as a location.....Its the best place, it has many things to do,and you can really do anything in Chi-town that you can do in vegas, minus the Gambling. While its an attraction, is it worth a thousand-mile plus drag? Chicago from the West Coast isn't that far, and for the east its a single-day trip. Versus Vegas, which is a drag for anyone not living west of the Mississippi.

And we have a lot of race and drag tracks. Atlanta sound good also, but the traffic there is a B!tch.

I wouldnt mind going to TX next year. Especially if were going to be sponsored so well as we were this past year. i didnt make it simply because it was a day away from my 2 year anniversary with my girl so it was sadly out of the question, if it was a few days before or after I would have been there also. Another city maybe more in the centra would be ideal to make driving for all easier but if we cannot get the same or better hook ups like the ones gotten this past year then might as well keep it in TX.

My vote would be for Myrtle Beach, but I realize it's not feasible for midwest & left-coasters. Myrtle holds bike meets there every year at the end of May, so the second week of May or first week of June would be perfect. The hotels down there are more than happy to set up group rates.

Otherwise, would holding regional Maxus meets be out of the question? Like kormax97 said, you can't ask people to drive for 2-3 days each way and expect a big national turn-out.

I had no problem driving down to Texas and back to Mass. I would gladly do it again, just for the Sonic fast food and Texas World Speedway.

Maybe next year I will have my motor swap and a better radiator so my car won't overheat on the track.

Somewhere near New York. English Town NJ would be nice. I went to a VW Meet Waterfest 2005. Man that place can fit a lot of cars. There had to be at least 20,000 cars with Parking, Show and racing and booths. They had Burnout competition, 1/4 Mile race for whoever pays. One race would start then next people would start racing right before the people before them finished. It was awesome to bad it rained and had to end early. VWVortex.com had all the GTI's lined up MK1-MK5. All in black. They also had booths from all differnt companys. My friend bought a Magnaflow exhaust for mad cheap at that Magnaflow Booth. That would be cool to have All 6 Gen's of the Max lined up all black. Or Blue since that is the main theme of the site.

Apparently some feel that the west coast folks will flake out even if it is Vegas. The true notion being is just as there is a large representation of Maximas back east (ATL/FLA and the Mid Atlantic) there is also a large representation here on the west coast, in particular San Diego, LA, and the Bay Area. No matter where it is held at you are NEVER going to get everyone to attend nor agree on a place where both coasts could meet up. I was born and raised in GA and know first hand what the car scene is like, but now live here in Cali for the meantime. I personally would like to see a large turnout from both coasts for this event. I don't think we have ever had both coasts together for an event such as this (I could be wrong though and if I am, my bad). You will always have flakers, no matter what area you represent. So whereever MAXUS 06 is going to be, now is the time to start planning this so that maybe, just maybe we can all agree on a place that will allow Maximas from all over to come to a common place and get to see how each coast does it.
