96 I30 starter problem

Hi, I have a problem with starting my I30 all of a sudden. I was trying to jump start a car today with my I30 and I accidentally touched the positive and negative terminals together after it was connected to my battery. Now my car does not turn over and when I turn the key, all I hear is a clicking sound. Tried jumping my car, but it did nothing. All the electrics work fine and the battery seems to be good. What could the problem be?

Theres a fuse box under the hood between the battery and the fender. Check the big fuse there. It'll have a clear top on it so you should be able to tell if its blown. This fuse doesnt just pull out its actually screwed in.

If you turn the key and you hear clicking its not the starter, you just don't have enough power to turn the motor over.

It sounds like your battery lost its charge. you can test it by trying to have it jumped and giving it time to build up charge, if it can't hold its running power for the next couple of days, check your alternator it might be giving out and also affecting your battery. I had the same problem and ignored it.. i had to end up buying a new alternator AND battery to bring the car back to 100%.

OOO good problem!
Just tel me where you had the cables connected on YOUR car when you touched the two battery cables together. Physically where on the car or battery.

Send me an email so I know when to return.

Mike

I played with this today and it worked for a little while. I will be taking off the relay cover next. I found this on the Z forum though. Lots of pretty pictures.

it turned out being the starter...the solenoid was good due to the clicking, so i ended up pulling off the intake and beating the starter with a hammer. after reconnecting everything, she started up just fine.
