Fog light rewire problem

Well, today I decided to rewire my foglights so it'll work without my headlights. I went to radioshack and got some of this stuff http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2104093
Then I opened up the relay box and started cutting the wires, but had no luck with it.

The cut up wire thats circled on the left is the foglight wire( I think) because when i disconnected the fogs turned off, and the one on the right is the brake light( I think) its the red and green one. Anyways i used the tap on and got nothing. Could anyone steer me into the right direction??

I couldnt figure out which wire was for the brake light so I just took another piece of wire and extended the fog wire down to the passenger side marker power wire. Works perfectly for me.

I am in the same boat. tried it this weekend with no luck...here are my pics, maybe they help???
The directions say cut the red & blue wire with silver dots, but there are 2 of them??? I tried the first one as you can see in the pic below, but it didn't work ( I triple checked it all) so before I cut the other wire I want to check so I don;t end up with three spliced wires under there etc...
can you confirm which wires I need to cut etc since mine were different too?

Here is the fog light wires to choose from to cut

and which one to tap into, I think I have this one right just mine are orange instead of red?

Remember guys, when working with wires, never rely only on wire colors.

In my case, none of the wire colors matched with what was stated in the write up done for the maxima.

When I get off work tomorrow I'll take some pics of what I did to help you guys out.

Ok. I dont have pictures because my girl decided that she needed the camera but I went to check what I had done..

So from the fog light relay, the wire that needs to be cut is the pink wire with black stripe and silver dots. This is the wire that is closest to the front of the vehicle when the relay and box is in its mounted position.

Now for those that want to tap it into the brake light relay:

Tap the wire that is also closest to the front of the vehicle when the relay and box is in the mounted position. Just like the wire that you cut previously for the fog light. For my car, the wire was red with a blue stripe and silver dots.

(I just redid mine to the brake light relay so I can confirm that this works also)

I Edited an image from that innerbean site to give a better visual of what wires need to be used. http://www.shiftice.com/fog_rewire.html

The green dots indicate the position of the wires from the relay that need to be used to make this work. The red dots are the wires that you dont touch. In the picture the front of the vehicle is to the right and the firewall is to the left. If anyone needs a better illustration/visual, let me know and when I get the camera back i'll take my own pictures.

And always remember, when working with wires, dont rely on the colors only!

I will try to do this this weekend myself. in my pictures the wires would be the red & Blue wire with dots (The one I spliced into) that has the short arrow to it in the first pic (Fog Fuse) spliced to the Red and Blue wire ( Not the one I tapped into) in the second pic (Brake Relay)

Thanks Essential!!! I will let you know how this works. Also, any idea how I could translate this into my Q45 wiring???

No problem burgy.

One other note I forgot to mention:

If you wire it up to the sidemarker, you can only turn the fogs on if the parking lights are switched on first from the stalk. So whenever the parking lights go off, your fogs do to.

If you wire it to the brake light relay, you will have fully independant control of the fog lights from the fog light switch itself. This means even when the car is off. So just remember to switch your fog lights off when you shut the car off. It wont go off when you take the key out and/or open the door.

As far as the q45, it should be the same concept as the i30. Just finding the wire that supplies power to the relay, and splicing that into another constant 12v power source. I wouldnt be surprised if the wires were in the same position as the I30 though. When I go back to work tomorrow I can probably find out.

DAMMIT!!! I guess the 02 is slightly different? but I tapped the front pin to the front pin as shown above and nothin! My side markers wouldn't come on until I put the headlights on.....My relay/Fuse box looks the same etc so I don't know. I do know that I hate wiring though...

Thanks essential! I used the image you made and got it to work. Guys if your doing this just remember that the fogs always stay on, so you have to manually turn them off and on unlike before.

Just went downstairs and followed the instruction and works 100%(01 i30). Took less than 15 mins. I spent more messing with the fuse box than the wires lol. Thanks essentials for the pic!

Yes, that write up is ok for the maxima, but the wire colors for the i35 are different from what is said in that write up.

Wire colors are the same, I followed those instructions too years ago. Remember mechanically our cars are exactly the same as Maximas, I30 = 5th, I35 = 5.5 gen

I stand corrected then.

I know they are mechanically the same. But when doing my fog rewire, I noticed the colors stated in the write up were not the same as in my car. But then again, I have an A33a, the write up we are refering to was done on an A33b.
