Time to lower! (Thoughts)

I know it seems everyone wants advice on lowering. When I had my Legend, we really only had one option: Koni reds and Eibach springs. I had the reds, but never got the springs. I'm curious if the Koni yellows (weren't available for the LEggy) would be anywhere near the comfort that the reds offered?

I am very tempted to to do Illuminas instead of the Konis.

I want to lower about 2" all around, basically to eliminate the fender gap with my 18"s and improve the stability in corners if possible. Ride comfort is the most important concern for me. I'd like a ride as close to stock as I can get. I realize lowering is going to affect the ride quality, but I want this impact to be minimal.

I'm looking at the following parts:

S-Tech Springs (#SKP20-AUB00)
Tokico Illuminas - Adjustable (BB3188, #BB3189, 2x #BU2943)

Would the Koni yellows give me more comfort, when paired with the S-Tech springs?

Corner handling is not really of much concern, I want more of a visual improvement than performance.

S-Techs are the worst possible spring for both handling and ride quality. You lose way too much suspension travel and you're on the bump stops the whole time. Been there, done that.

Really, for what you want, Eibachs, H&Rs, or H-Techs are the best bet. H-Techs will have the best "look" but won't handle as well as Eibachs (and maybe H&Rs) and I wasn't thrilled with the ride quality. H&Rs will have the best ride comfort. Eibachs will probably handle the best, but some people say their stiff (I think they ride just fine).

But for the love of god, stay away from S-Tech springs. I think I had those on my car for a whole 1-2 months before I went back to stock.

I have BC racing BR series coilovers and love the ride:








I have the back raised a bit, and the dampening settings set to 10/30 for a soft ride. So if 3 full size adults sit in the back with a loaded trunk, the car is quite balanced lol, and I don't bottom out. Parents and family sit in my car, so its essential for a good ride quality.

I sat in an i35 with Eibachs and illuminas and wasn't impressed. Too stiff. This is above all, a luxury car. I have yet to try H&R's, I hear they were less stiff, but I hate the rear sag with any spring strut combo. Coilovers let you decide the balance.

For the money you will spend on a spring strut combo, you are better off spending a bit more and getting coilovers..

Thanks guys, car is holding up fine minus some clunking noise from the front passenger side wheel. Gotta change those swaybar endlinks/ replace bushings.

Otherwise its a very smooth ride I'd recommend these to any i30/i35 owner.

We have coils on both the I35 and the Q45, but if your doing springs I would recommend you stay AWAY from Teins S-Techs and the only springs I have ever truly been happy with were H&R!

Can someone tell me what the difference between coilovers and springs are? and how they work?

the quick lesson, Springs are just that springs that seat over the stock struts or replacement struts. some aftermarket struts can be adjustable for rebound but not all. height is not adjustable and spring rates and drop differ between springs.

Coilovers are coils(spring) over a strut/dampner and are all one unit. the spring and dampening are meant to go with one another. in addition coilovers are usually adjustable for their rebound rates, rides height and often, the coils can be swapped out for other spring rates based on application.

Hey guys i just got some Eibach springs and i wanted to know if it was advisable to get the KYB AGX adjustable struts to go with the springs. any suggestions?
