'02 I35 Headlight Removal

Hey Gang,

Just trying to replace the hid bulbs on my I35, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to remove the headlights. I've removed the 2 bolts from the top, and even removed the plastics underneath to find nothing to unbolt from there. Anyway, any help or "how-to" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks John... gonna give it a try tonight! I removed the splash shield, but not the one beneath the fog light. I think that's the one I needed to remove to access that last bolt. Is that the one that is also the front portion of the wheel well liner?

I also suggest buying HID bulbs in pairs, your current bulbs would have color shifted and the new ones would be the original color.

Good Advice... That's exactly what I did... can't wait to see 'em. I went with the 8k ones. Hoping they're not too blue.

I can't remember if it's one piece or two pieces, but if it's one piece, then yes, and if it's two pieces, then it's the one right in front of the wheel well liner.

Didn't have the remove the whole piece, just took off 3 screws/bolts and moved it out of the way. Anyway, whole job took less than an hour. Here are a few pics for those who want to see a comparison between stock vs 8000k. Thanks again for all the help.

I'll admit 8000K looks cool, but the amount of light you lose is dramatic.

Even the 6000k D2S bulbs I've been playing around with in this Pathfinder retrofit I'm doing ATM look cool, but are pretty dim compared to a Philips 85122+.

You're right... as far as brightening the road, these don't even compare to the stock ones... Anyone know what the stock lights are? I would think maybe 4200k?

4100k or 4300k depending on who you talk to.

talk to me more about these projectors... I'm looking at my old '90 300ZX and it looks like I've got projectors in there, but I'm sure they came stock. What's the story with the projectors on the I35?

Sorry for the delay. Back from Vegas...I'm in catch-up mode.

Our cars came with reflector-based HID. Most of us that have retrofitted feel that we have better lighting from the better beam patterns from the projectors we've installed.

I know n3985 and I have transplanted the projectors from an Acura TSX into A33 headlights. We've both used the projector headlights on eBay and swapped out the projectors in those with TSX projectors. I've also retrofitted TSX projectors with Mini Cooper shrouds in my OEM I35 headlights.

Some folks around here with A32s have done some fun things with various Bi-Xenon projectors.

Side note, I find it funny that driving at night, cars in front of me will move out of the way quite quickly. Due to the fact that I colormodded my projectors, so they see a "flashing" of blue color in their mirrors and assume it is the police.
