2k i30 (replica of 5th gen maxima's)
I own a 2000 i30 infiniti and in the past 10k miles I have noticed that sulfer smell I have always been very worried about it but money has been tight I recently moved out on my own and have a lot of bills and am barely making it.. I read in the manual that if you live in certain states, Utah being one of them that you dont have to use premium you can get away with 85 octane i was skeptical so I posted at some other forums and many people living in the same states said they have always used 85 octane and never had a problem.. Anyway when i first noticed the smell I changed to 91 octane and that didnt do a damn thing what so ever, so now im back at 85 octane my car seems weaker and slower and I notice that smoke only comes from 1 tip on my dual exhaust so im presuming there has to be something wrong.. Also due to my financial situation I am unable to afford to do any repairs, I am slowly saving to get a free flow cat but until then am I messing up my car driving it around with that smell? this car has been babied and its at 124k and I honestly can say its been taken above 5k rpms less then 100 times in its 7 years of being driven. am I wearing out my engine by doing this? I know nothing about cars so bare with me.. how long can I keep driving around with this smell. at first it was the smell of sulfer / rotten eggs now its starting to smell like fireworks and the smell is getting stronger especialy when I punch it.. Any feedback would be great! sorry about the lengthy text...

Hope it turns out to be a bad cat and nothing else, good luck fixing it.
If you can't figure it out I live in Riverton Utah and have a good friend that is a mechanic that could take a look at it for a lot cheaper then other places would charge. Just PM or something and I will give him a call if you need him
