timing belt change?

I bought a used 2002 I35 last october w/81,000 miles(great car!). I have since put about 11,000 miles on it. At the current rate, I will reach the 100,000 mark by the end of this year. At what mileage should I get the timing belt changed? How much does it usually cost? Is there any other maintenance that I should get done while changing the timing belt? Thanks in advance.

Your car has a timing chain that doesn't need to be changed.

I was under the impression that all nissan vehicles had timing belts instead of chains. I think I love this car even more.

yea thats one of the reasons I switched from VG 2 VQ engine, but as long as you keep a timing belt changed on a VG engine they will run forever

Nissan uses timing chains more than any other Japanese brand.

And that's why they are built to last more than 250k miles.

I will never forget my 82 280ZX, which also had a timing chain. Another Nissan (Datsun) that was made to last!

It's amazing. The VG30DETT in my 300zx Twin Turbo has a timing belt that has to be changed every 60K.

I wish we had a timing chain.

Do the 2000 I30s have chains as well?

Does anyone know why my analog clock won't light up?

New I30 owner. (love this site)

I'd tread lightly on that one. Having both a Z32 and an A33, I can tell you that the VG is far superior to the VQ in terms of power capability. The VQ is superior to the VG in terms of general maintenance.

I love both engines, but for different reasons.

It was a poor attempt at humor. The Twin Turbo Z32s are phucking fast. No doubt about it. They can handle their boost.

Anything else with a VG, (NA 300ZX, J30, M30, Maxima) I eat for breakfast though.

The timing chain was the reason why I purchased a 240sx and later my I30t.
