To those with a 2003-2004 I35...

I'm looking for information about adding satellite radio to my 2002 I35 with navigation. I understand that starting in 2003, there was a factory option available. Especially those with navigation, is there a SAT button on the head unit? I have the changer in the trunk, but I did not see an additional port like those in the G35's.

I would prefer the factory unit, and maybe I could swap to the 03-04 Bose navi headunit if necessary. I also wonder if there is additional wiring in the trunk or not.

Search did not come up with a specific answer, I've also emailed Everything Nissan and Grubbs awaiting a reply. Thanks.

This is my best guess, because I don't know for sure, but:

If it's anything like the G35s or other Infinitis that I've dealt with you'll need a SAT capable head unit, like you said, most likely with the SAT button. You'll also need the satellite tuner, which may or may not include the cable to connect it to the back of the head unit. If it's not included, you'll need to buy that as well. You'll also need a sat antenna.

Seems to me that the best way to figure this out would be to go to a parts department (or download an FSM) and look through some parts listings/diagrams with the parts guy to see what all is involved on the sat ready cars and what all is different from what you have now.

There IS a sat button on my 03 w/navigation. You still have to buy the factory kit and have something installed according to the owners manual. Not as simple as subscribing to the service as I had hoped. I think the kit was ~ 500 installed at Inskip when I called last year.

Thank you for the replies. So those WITH the SAT button and NAVI, is there an extra port/connector in you trunk are not being used? I understand that the actual tuner package has to be purchased, I'm just trying to see if it is only the head unit that is different. I do not have the SAT button on my 02.

***** I'm going to have to recommend that you never go to Inskip again, trust me on this one. I know Norwood is no better, neither is Quirk, but out of the three Quirk Definitly has the best service dept. There in braintree. Just please don't go to Inskip.

Grubbs said no way, too much stuff to swap. Though they didn't say exactly what. I am getting the Sirius S50 for Christmas anyway, so I will use the SAT-SWB to block out the FM antenna while the S50 is on for clear sound. It's either that, or disconnect the changer in the trunk and buy a 100.00 AUX adapter. Yeah, I'm waiting for Howard's arrival.

When I got my 2002 I earlier this year I asked my local dealer if the satelite radio could be installed and they said no. It was only an option on the later models. So I guess that's consensus.
