Calipers painted from the factory....

can I just sand and clear cloat with some high temp clear coat paint to get a nice shine out of it or do I need to repaint first?

Also is this a rare option or do all I30's come this way?

No I30s or I35s came from the factory with painted calipers.

Did you buy the car brand new off the dealer lot? If not, someone easily could have painted them before you got your hands on it.

Are you sure you're not talking about the grayish color that the caliper is (not really paint, more like some sort of coating)? I can't really tell from the picture.

This car was bought direct from the dealer. Funny that the reason you can't really tell the color is the reason I started the thread. I'm trying to figure out a way to bring the color out. I was thinking clear coat, but I'm not sure it'll work. Over the years it's faded. But yeah it's definitely mil jade, I even tried to throw some of the fender in the pic for contrast.

No idea then. You must have the only car direct from the factory with painted calipers. That or the dealer painted them after they received it.

If it's paint, try the detailing forum. They might have some ideas.

If you were being serious then all I can say is no it's not rust, it's paint.

I think we're all being serious when we say that you don't have factory painted calipers.

If you really want them to look nice, actually paint the calipers. What you're probably thinking is paint is actually just a coating that's put on all the calipers.

Now if you just want them cleaner, try some brake parts cleaner or something of that nature.

There is no way you have factory painted calipers. And I have a hard time believing that the dealer painted them.

Ok fella's, I'm no bafoon. I was not the primary driver of this car when it was bought, but we've had this car since it was new. I guarantee any of you(and we can bet a drink) that if you saw my car you would not say that what I see is coating from the factory. One of the first things ppl say to me when they see my car(parked that is) is did you have your calipers painted. Anyways I have a hard time believing this color wouldn't stand out(in a negative way) on other colored I30's.
This w/e I'll clean them up and just take more pic's. I called the dealer about the calipers and of course the sales guy that was there when we got the car wasn't there anymore. I've decided I'm just going to get the touch up paint color matched and repaint them and if possible throw some type of clear coat on them so they won't fade this time around.

I am just jumping in here, but could it be possible that someone put aftermarket calipers on the car that look painted or at least look different from the factory calipers????

Just throwing that thought in.

Doubt that. He said he was the original owner.

Is it possible that someone may have snuck on to the dealership's lot and painted them secretly when no one was around? ....just an idea.
