A/T Solenoid Valve assembly and TCM

My Infinity has that transmission slip from 1st to 2nd under powered acceleration.

TSB ITB00-028b says to replace the A/T Solenoid Valve assembly and TCM. Has anyone done this and is it a big deal? My car is out of warranty.

Anyone have the part numbers to order the parts?

Thanks.

No check engine light and no code and no flashing light. It actually has a weak shift between 1st and second that I am trying to fix.

It sounds like it was an easy swap. Did you ever get your tranny fixed?

According to the TSB the new solenoid valve assembly PN is 31940-85x03 ('00-'01). The only noticeable difference between the old and new solenoid assembly, that I saw, was that solenoid A had different enclosure. The TCM part numbers are 31036-3y160 ('00) and 31036-5y001 ('01). Replacing the solenoid valve assembly requires you to drop the VB. It's messy but doable. There are only 13 bolts that need to be removed. Someone posted a how-to on dropping the VB in the Gen5 forum which included a picture showing the 13 bolts that need to be removed.

Ooops, it was in the vqpower website...my bad! The instructions show 14 bolts have to be removed (if I remember correctly the bolt that holds the red solenoid B wire does not have to be removed to drop the VB).

Hey im new to this site but, yea im also having problems with the jerking from 1st to 2nd and vice versa. You say to go to the dealer and get a new solenoid assembly for about $140 and not to let them sell you a used one for $400. how would someone know if there selling you a new or used one based on what price they tell you.. i might walk in and ask for a new solenoid assembly thinking its gonna be around $140, maybe a little more and they might end up telling me its like $200 or better. how would i know if im getting jerked around

I've had mine replaced once before while the car was under warranty, but sadly, the transmission is doing the typical 1st to 2nd shift jerk. How easy would this be to replace for someone who hasn't done transmission work before?

Don't mean to sound like a pessimist but 5th gen A33A's have problematic trannies. Im not gonna lie, I did solenoids, then full rebuild with new bands and clutches and vbmod. Crapped out again. I ended up doing the manual swap. Money in this auto tranny is futile.... =\

As cool as it would be to have a stick again, I'd have to pass on that. Atlanta traffic is a *****, and I'd get fed up with it again. I also don't plan to have this car for more than another year or two, so an auto to manual swap wouldn't be in my best interest at this point. I just don't want it slipping at least until I get rid of it. Then its someone else's problem.

I know this is an aging thread; but... 93 infiniti tranny (same as maxima/300z) shifts from 1 to two when in D2. When in D3, 1 to 2 to freewheel with nothing catching. When in D4 shifts 1 to 2 two to freewheel and then torque converter will lock in and continue to power in 2nd and freewheel to coast and catch in 2nd when engine speed matches 2nd gear. when up to maybe 60mph in D4 you can shift down to D3 and you will feel/hear something engage with a little resistance but no gear catching. Any ideas no engine light?
