question re: I30/I35 vs Maxima ( body )

before I ask my question,

1-I searched google
2-I searched on the .org and I read the FAQ: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=149161

*What is the difference between my car and a Maxima?

The I30 / I35 and the Nissan Maxima are very close in everyway except body wise. They have the same engine, drivetrain, interior, and suspension. The only main difference is that the I30 has a different front and rear end then the Nissan Maxima. All of the mods for the Nissan Maxima except body mods will fit the I30 / I35.

My question is:

why won't the front fit( be swappable).. I know the rear can't since the quarter/tail light area is different... but the front?? I'm sure we share the same frame ( maxima and i30-i35 ), therefore mounting holes for body panels should be the same.. so if I were to swap the whole front end ( hood, bumper, fenders, lights, grill).. it should fit, no? shouldn't it be a simple swap like the jetta/golf front ends?

any insight regarding why it won't fit or why wouldn't it fit would be greatly appreciated..

thank you,
kL

Yes, everything should fit. Nice analogy with the Jetta/Golf

You got your answer already but i'm just reassuring you because I had first hand experience with it. I test fitted i30 fenders when I had a 4th gen max and they went on just fine.

Good analogy with the jetta/golf. Same concept as silvia/240sx, civic/crx/integra, etc.

Thanks for the reassurance.. at least now I won't have to worry about "but what if it doesn't fit".. lol

yeah, as for anology, that's the only one that came to my mind..
so should we suggest the FAQ be updated stating it is swappable, but all components must be swapped?

If it doesn't fit i'll paypal you $5. lol I second the motion to suggest that this be updated in the FAQs.

Good luck with the front end swap. I personaly preffer the A32 i30 front over the maxima's, but I preffer the maxima's back end over the i30's. I've been tossing around the idea of changing my A33 i30 front end to a maxima front end. I love my i30's back, but I preffer how agressive the 5.5 gen looks with the classic lip.

hahahah we are somewhat in the same dilema..

I want the I30's front ( more classy and my cefiro lights would fit better).. and I want to keep my maxima rear end ..

at one point, I had the cefiro lights + 96 front ( maxima) and 97 rear ( maxima).. my car is confused..
but yeah, I want to do the swap.. just to be different.. lol
and I'll keep in mind the $5.00 paypal if it don't fit hahahahaha

i would think everything would swap over just fine, i remember someone talking about the hood latch needs to be relocated lower, but i've never looked at an i30 so i can't confirm that.

Something to keep in mind - if done on the A33 chassis, the Maxima body has flared wheel arches whereas the I35 body does not. Aside from the obvious "Infiniti front end with a Max rear clip" unusualness, it might look a little odd to have flared wheel arches in the rear and none in the front.

Hmmm, slightly different to what you are comparing, but what is it exactly you are trying to get? A nissan badge or just the US front look of the maxima?

I only ask this as in Aus. your infiniti's are our maxima's as it would seem.

So if it was just the nissan part, then im sure stuff could be ordered from Aus.

If you're talking about the A33 body style, you'd also need to switch out the front fenders as well. The headlight shape is different in the I35 to Maxima models.

i30 radiator support

Does anyone have any experience trying to put a maxima radiator support in an i30? I have a 98 i30 which needs the radiator support replaced. I have found a local maxima support for $50 versus the $175 for the infiniti support. I have had some people say it is the same part and others say its different so I was wondering if anyone knows for sure or has tried it. Thanks.

Ok, so maybe someone can answer this since so many people here have done this. Can you put a i30 hood on a 4th gen max and keep the max fenders, headlights, etc?
