Axxis Utimate Brake Pads from CarboTech

I was talking with the guy at Carbotech today looking for a high performance street/autocross pad. He mentioned the Axxis Ultimate which he says is superior to the Porterfield R4S. If 5-10 people were interested in a group deal, he could do them for $72.50 for the front set and $49 for the rears. Any interest here??

Their website is http://www.carbotecheng.com

How do these compare with the Axxis Metal Master's? Also, do you know a website listing the Axxis pads side by side? Temp ranges/friction coefficients/recommended use, etc.

From my understanding these pads are superior to both Axxis Metalmasters and Porterfield R4S. They supposedly have a hard initial bite with excellent modulation and similar fade characteristics and temperature ranges to the Porterfield's. I can't speak as to experience with these pads, as I have never used them, but their use is high performance street, autocross and very light track work. For the actual friction coefficients I would contact Carbotech directly. I really don't know much about these pads and put this up here for them to guage interest in a group deal. Any details would have to come through Carbotech.

R4S vs Axxis ultimate

I had R4S pads for about 9 months and just installed the new "Axxis ultimates" about 2 months ago...
My experience: R4S is a hell of a pad, good performance but lot's of brake dust and lasts O.K.
The new Axxis Ultimates (Althogh about 2 months) equally good performace, low on Brake dust and superior compared to Metal Masters. "Highly Recommended"
Conclusion: If you do a lot of track Racing and aggresive driving go with the R4S. If limited track Racing and occasional aggresive driving go with the Axxis Ultimates, very good performer/quiet and easy on the brake dust, I simply love them so far.
Hope I could help....

I'm not sure if this is a definite yet or not. I would call and talk to Carbotech about it directly. I just told them I would post the info on this board and am not involved in the deal at all.

if ultimates are equal in performance why do you recommend R4S for hard track use?

As far as hard track use I did'nt say they are equal.
A lot of track use: R4S
Limited track use: Ultimates

iwannabmw,

I can be in for one set of front & rear pads, possibly two.

I've informed Jeff92se of this potential deal as well. He may be in for a set of fronts.

ok... i called carbotech and tried to order those axxis ultimates. they didn't have them in stock for my 97 max... i asked them about the pricing and the guy that took my order said he could do 79 for the fronts and 49 for the rears, even tho he originally had the fronts for about 90.

he calls me back the next day, and says that his boss won't let him do that.

he sends me over to www.brakewarehouse.com and says they have them in stock and they have them cheaper, which... are both true. fronts are $60.50 and rears are $40.99.

to be perfectly honest, i don't know. but from what i hear, it depends on how seriously you race/drive. i just use my car for day to day stuff and the occasional street race soooo... i'm picking up some brembo slotted/xdrilled rotors to go with the axxis ultimates...

if you're asking me who i spoke with at the brakewarehouse.com, i can't remember. i didn't have to arrange for a special deal. their regular price is just $60 for the fronts and $40 for the rears. i thought that was pretty damn good. everywhere else i've looked on the net has it for about $10-20 more.

and yes, i did order.

Woah. $60 for the fronts regular price? SWEET!

Too bad I've got a set of new Porterfield R4S's all around, and probably won't need new pads for at least the next year (possibly two).

The SE-R guys prefer the Axxis Ultimates to the Porterfield R4S for street use. Having compared the Axxis Metalmasters to the R4S, I definitely prefer the R4S. For track use, it really depends on your brakes- light track use, either pad is fine. Heavier track use and it comes down to one of several pads depending on how you drive and your brake setup.

yeah, well.. the guy that took my order was cool he tried to get me the prices that are in the very first post. he took the order, and i thought that was that. i get a call the next day from the guy saying that his boss was being a ***** and that he wouldn't let the brakes go for that price. sooooo then that guy referred me to brakewarehouse.com. i'm pretty glad hahaha... a lot of people seem to be benefitting from this.

got mine ordered and on the way, and those brembo slotted/xdrilled rotors on the way as well, from the other post! whoo hoo!!

supposedly the 4th gen pads fit the 5th gen, so you can just get the 4th gen ones if they are cheaper.

I just bought the Axxis Ultimates today from Brake Zone in So Cal. (fronts: $65 - rears $45)
The owner has a lot of these in stock and he told me if I could get 5-10 orders he would even include shipping in the price...
Not bad, (the best price on these pads so far), so if anyone interested please post here or let me know: henrikgal@aol.com

Wow! $72.50 for the front pads? There isn't really that much of a difference between the Axxis Ultimate and the Axxis Metal Master. The Axxis Ultimates are made of a stronger compound which releases more dust whereas the Metal Master grips harder as it warms up!

I got mine for $85 shipped for both front and rear for the Axxis Metal Masters from iRotors.com.

Just my .02
