cost of urethane is slightly higher than last year. Plus we don't get all the cores back quite often
I spend more time sourcing cores to replace the ones lost. But I consider it worth while since its another excuse for all the East Coast maximas to replace their rusted out ones
The bushing was delivered today...it looks solid! Install is gonna have to wait till this weekend. I'll make sure you get ur core back..............maybe. hehe just effin with ya...
I recieved my bushing and my CF Cooling Panel today and it looks GREAT! I wll try to install soon and get you a core back. Great doing bussiness with you!
I'm SOL for now...I attempted to install the new bushing but was stopped by 4 rusty cat bolts. I sprayed all bolts (lower heat shield, cat bolts, upper heat shield) thoroughly with liquid wrench. I let it soak for a good 25 mins. The lower heat shield came off very easily. The cat bolts would not budge at all. I drenched the damn bolts with more liquid wrench and let it sit for over 30 mins. They still would not even slightly move. I used a socket wrench with short and deep extension sockets as well as an open/closed faced wrench. I threw in the towel when I partially stripped the thread on one of the cat bolts. I was also seriously flexing the cat trying to loosen the bolt and I didn't want to cause any more damage. I had the front of the max up on jack stands and I'm thinking I need more leverage such as using a lift or I need air impact tools to bust the damn cat bolts off. I might need a new set of cat bolts. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about taking it to a local mechanic who I've known for many years and would install it for dirt cheap. Even though I'd much rather install it myself....damn you rust! The cat bolts seem to have never been touched since the max left the factory in Japan when it was manufactured. There is over 80k miles on the odometer.

Take your car to an exhaust shop and have them torch the bolts off and put a new bolt/nut setup in.
My came off quite easily because about 3 months ago I had my SP2 installed and he just torched the bolts off, told me there was no point in tryin to take them off due to he'll most likely strip the hell out of them.

4DRSpeed: That's a good idea. I can take it to this exhaust shop and have them put in new cat bolts. I wonder if he'll change out the bushing as long as he's under there for a few extra bux...Should I get oem Nissan cat bolts or just get from Lowe's, etc.?
I've had problems installing some due to the cat bolts on some 4th gens, but never on a 5th gen. I'd suggest some anti seize of sorts for next time also.

heat the bolts up with a torch.. get a small propane torch, they're like 10-15 at autozone.. that should get them loose.

Hey Larrio. I finished my 5spd swap this weekend, so you will get your core back this week. Thanks pal. Shifter feels good. I have the B&M STS and i'm using AMSOIL GL4. My friend says it feels like a 350z setup. I guess that's good? LOL. Thanks again. I actually changed out my exhaust bolts with some grade 8 bolts and nuts before. So they just came right off.
BlackbirdVQ has the same comment in that it makes the shifter feel like a 350z.... firm, direct shifts. It also makes that neat thunk sound when it engages in each gear

Cool, I had nothing to compare it to, just 3 days ago the only shifting I did was from P to D. .

Installed! This urethane bushing mod is a great bang for the buck. My shifts feel direct and solid. Before I would sometimes grind going from second to third when I would shift in a hurry and being a tard. Now each gear engages very firmly like it should. I did notice increased vibration feel from the shift knob which is to be expected due to the urethane but this is hardly bothersome and is completely acceptable. The shift feel going from first to second shows the most improvement which someone already mentioned. I'm running the stock shifter/knob with this urethane bushing.
I recommend this mod to anyone with a manual tranny Maxima.

Just installed mine also about 20 min ago. I didnt even have to remove the stock cat to do it. Just unbolt the top heat shield and pull it off from the side of the cat you might have to bend the heat shield tab to get it to come down.
I experience the same thing as Tsukuba Circuit. Before the mod, I had notchyness going from 1-2 and also sometimes from 3-4. Just driving around with the new bushing around the block was enough to know that this mod solved my notchy shifter and made each shift firm and positive.

I thought thats how everyone did it. I did the same thing to install my STS. (LOL) Thought it was the lazy approach.
