Ok, I just got my bushing today. I'm laying under the car trying to get one of the nuts to budge and remembering all the nuts that I've tried to undo in the past. 99% of the time the stud shears completely off leaving me with nothing left to attach to. I'm seriously afraid its going to happen again this time. How are these to be replaced? From the top near the shifter? I'm almost tempted not to go forward in fear that I'll just end up with a nice bushing with no place to mount it to. Any suggestions?
I went to Meineke to have it put it. They had to totally sheer the stock stud off the car, couldnt torch it cause it was too close to the body. Well after alot of noise, and sparks, it was installed. New Bolts and all. There is no WAY I would have been able to do it
Just did a 5 speed swap last year so mine should come down with ease. I never realized how bad that area gets. Friend of mine bought a 1995 5 Speed just to get teh swap parts and the same thing you guys are scared of happening happened to him. At least that was on the junk car. I would suggest just taking it to shop like Matty did

Well I accomplished it. Planned for destroying the bolts and did pretty much that. Used bolts from Home Depot as replacements for mounting the bushing to the frame but the 14mm bolt was still fine to reuse.
I do notice a difference in the shifting now. Only took it for a quick test drive so I haven't seen the full impact. Initially I'd say it wasn't as drastic as I was hoping it would be or that others have made it out to be. It's definitely a good part to replace and a rebuilt piece. I don't know if it was worth the pain in the butt that it was to replace it but that could be an isolated case involving built up rust like we have here in the NE.
I am surprised to hear so many problems with rust in that area. My car is a 98 and I live in NY. The bolts were a little rusted but, I just sprayed it with a little liquid wrench and it came right off. The only thing I can say is that the car has always been garaged. One other thing I always do whenever I take off a new bolt, especially under the car, is to put a little anti-seize on it before it goes back in.

Most people that raved about dramatic increase have a STS an changed there gear oil to MT-90 or Amsoil. Mostly, if you have a stock shifter, you won't see a big improvement like when you have a STS which is very notchy.

Actually I have still have my stock shifter, and I can definetly feel a total improvement. I am using Amsoil gear lube. It is a TON more direct, and it feels heavier which I actually like.
Couldn't be happier.

I have a CE STS. and when I switched to MT-90 gear selection actually got worse.
Guys, i'm trying to get that bracket off the parts car I have and I successfully broke 2 of the four studs underneath the car, Can't break the last 2. I guess I should just keep trying to bend them from side to side until they snap? Any tips, tricks?
ALSO, once this bracket is out, will it be pretty obvious how this mounts up?
Once the heat shield is removed from the bottom, it should reveal this:
The bushing is on the left side of the picture. IIRC, two 12mm bolts hold it up to the chassis while a 14mm nut hold it through to the shifter mechanism
Actually i'm not sure ppl even need one Larrio. But hey, won't hurt. My friend needs a bushing ASAP. When you get them please be prepared to take an overnight order. As a matter of fact, overnight price quote to 11234 please. SO he knows what to give me so I can paypal you.

Larrio i'll take one for the $57 overnight. Hold that for me til at least 5pm. Thanks buddy! Mike should have also called you about it.
Mike aka mforrest100 already paid for a overnight bushing yesterday. Is this the same one?
It was sent to a fellow named Justin in Brooklyn. I had to call a few junkyards and pull some strings to get a core and rush a emergency fill and cure all night to send out a emergency bushing for him.

Tip fo you guys when i installed mine. What i did was drill out the top of the stuff from inside the car. Then take a chisle and tap the stud out. Took a little patience but because we are in the North East and rust is a fact of lice i couldn't see any other way to do this.
