Well I'm just debating how much hp I would get from this intake compared to the Stillen intake I have.

Your Stillen intake is a warm air, under the hood right? If you get the PR CAI and use the cold air extention, you will get a HP increase. Not sure of how much though. But it is a scientific fact that cold air into the engine makes more hp. If you are going to use the top section and keep it under the hood, it may not make a great difference, but should make some with this filter.

if berk and stillen puts 8-11 WHP, i am sure this puts out the same, if not more. i have read that the CAI helps with low end torque, which is lost with the not CAI intakes.

that right there sold me. i miss the low end torque...

2 questions.

I have an automatic. would it be worth me getting? i want one badly ...

is there anyone in my area (Jackson or Memphis TN ... Florence ,Huntsville, or even Scottsboro AL) that would be willing to help me put that bad boy on?

If I can get those answered, I will be more than happy to buy one, but I can't till the 26th (I know, cuttin' it close)

Car payments and insurance are due this month, so I wont have it till the 26th, well the 24th actually is when I can pay for it (autodeposit will go into my account the 24th)

Thank ya guys

Do I see a mini meet / workshop in Huntsville? Any others in the surrounding area want to join in? We are about 2 hours south of Nashville and an hour north of Birmingham.

You will definitely have an increase in HP with a CAI compared to a WAI. It is an often over looked fact, when comparing dyno HP numbers, that the hood is OPEN during the dyno run. So a WAI is getting cold air blown on it from the fan, effectively making it a CAI, but only for the dyno run. Now in real world driving, the hood is CLOSED, so your WAI is now just that, a warm air intake. Power will always be better with cold air. There is a reason why alot of manufacturers are designing their air intake systems to injest cool air outside the engine compartment, it is an effective way to increase power.

I agree that CAI will make more power than WAI but w/ my Stillen, I have this plastic piece that collects air from the front grill and directs that air to my filter. Intake is worthless if your car is not moving. I don't know if PR CAI is located where air flow is restricted. Isn't the filter placed somewhere around the fender? Wonder if there's any air flow there when the car is moving.....

This setup will only be effective if the plastic piece forms an air tight seal around your air filter, allowing only cold air in. If the plastic piece just sits next to your air filter, then you are still getting a fairly significant amount of warm air into your air filter. The Place Racing CAI would outperform your setup
due to air filter placement outside the engine bay, totally away from any hot engine air. I am also quite sure you already know this, so I'll stop while I'm ahead

In addition to the benefit of cold air, the longer tube on the PR CAI pretty much eliminates turbulance in the airflow before it hits the hotwire in the MAF. [Engineering rule-of-thumb is if the length of the tubing is 5x the cross section of the tube (or longer), you'll get something close to laminar air flow.]

Totally separate from the temperature issue, this also has a benefit. When the hotwire is getting buffeted by turbulant air, there is definitely a power loss, we've observed this on the dyno.

You remove the batter and tray during the installation, but they're all replaced in the original positions when you're done.

Brian,

Thanks for giving us this great deal. About how much power does this intake make? I know there're guesstimates of 5-10hp but I figure if anyone knows, it'd be you.

K&N filters are avail for an additional $25.00. You will get both the K&N and the Monsterflow. I still would highly recommend just using the Monsterflow. Thanks.

Brian, are you getting more of these, or is the gd only on the ones you have in your warehouse?

Place Racing is going to stop making this CAI !!!

I spoke with Brian Cats at Cattman Performance this afternoon, and he told me that there are only approximately 300 Place Racing CAI's left, and that Place Racing will NO LONGER BE MAKING CAI's for our cars. So, this is it, if you have ever thought about buying one of these, THIS IS YOUR FINAL CHANCE !! They will not be available ever again once sold out!!
