I'm confused on tire pressures....track guys help!

Well last time I went to the track I went with some VERY experienced drivers..one with a high 10 second prelude and 10 sec supra tt, and a fast rx7 tt. Well anyways..Im there with my maxima and I'm telling them that I should lower my pressure in the front to about 22psi or so. They tell me that its not going to help out my times one bit to do that, and only cars with drags should run anything lower than that. They said to keep it at 30psi. Now, if im not mistaken, dont most of you drop down to like 20-25psi in the front and 40 in the rear. Please clear this up and tell me what will give me the best traction and times. thanks for you time and input

I definitely get better 60' times iwth lower pressure. I run my fronts at 25 psi.

Dont go much lower than that. The guys they are talking about run slicks or DRs. They drop them down to less than 20 psi...

June 2002 Sport Compact Car

There is a great article in this issue comparing street tires, drag radial and slicks.
Bottom line for the street tires was the best 60' was obtained at 30 psi and no burnout. They were Falken Azenis Sport tires.
Great article if you get a chance to read it.

a 10 sec Prelude? Hm...first I ever heard of that. Interesting.

Tire pressure didn't make any difference for me. When I had the front at 35psi, I ran a 15.6 with a 2.3 60ft. When I lowered it down to 25psi, I still ran a 15.6 with another 2.3 60ft. Most of my runs were in hot weather. I think I should still around later to see how I run with cooler temperatures.

I run my tires at normal street pressure (32psi front and rear) unless I start to get violent wheel hop, at which point I will start dropping the front pressure. I've noticed no correlation between tire pressure and 60'/ET, and I have all my runs and details of each run in a spreadsheet. I've pulled 2.1 60' times with both stock "street" pressure and "lowered" pressure.

Cumalot, 10 sec lude, yah it does sound unreal and like I'm talking out of my butt, I know, but seriously, this car is for real. It's running like 25 pounds of boost, making 630hp and trapping out at over 130hp in the quarter. He was trapping at over 100mph N/A. If you want I might be able to get dyno charts on that car. Anyways, thanks for the tips guys!

I run regular recommended tire pressure.
You dont have to lower the pressure unless you're getting bad wheel hop which i never get in my car.
I pull consistent 2.2 60'.
Even pulled a 2.1 60' on 65lb 19" rims @ 46psi tire pressure.
