Short answer - no.

All versions of the Nissan VQ engine share the same basic design. But the VQ20 is a 2 liter displacement engine and the VQ30 is a 3 liter engine. The pistons won't interchange because of this. The VQ20 piston is 76 mm in diameter and the VQ30 piston is 93 mm in diameter. The stroke of the 2 engines are the same, 73.3 mm. I think, but I am not 100% positive, that the crankshafts and connecting rods are the same.

Ok a bit of back ground might help... I have a 72 datsun 1200 ute that I want to do an engine upgrade on and and 2l is the largest N/A engine the rta will let me fit so I am trying to work out if I can use a vq20de block and vq30de crank with wot Eva rods and the 2l pistons to suit, so if possible I could get like a 2.5 or 2.6l depending if I hone the bores etc... Just so I can squeeze that Iil bit more out of it. Plus it would sound ace in the datto and have heaps more torque than any tyres could put to ground

a spartan DiG 1.8 could be fun (but costly)?

I got hold of some manuals for the vq20, 30 & 35de and also came across a thread with ppl who have been doing the 35 gear into the 30 but having to use custom head gaskets to lift the heads to get piston clearance, the bearings in the mains are the same size between the 20, 30 & 35 only big end differences, the blocks are the same height it just seems to be the height of the gudgeon to the top of piston which is what will give me clearance... So custom pistons that have a vq20 diameter but not tall enough to hit the head and give a good comp ratio if possible??? Will find out in the next few days wether I can get a vq2?de

And for poops & giggles. The VQ30 and V@35 do share the same block. VQ35 has different cylinder sleeves/cooling jackets and obviously bore diameter, but the block, other than that is the same casting.

VQ20 block and pistons with VQ35 crank and short rods maybe? The rods would have to be shorter in length equal to the difference in stroke.
