Engine Swap - What are good parts to replace during?
Hey guys. Im doing an engine swap on a vq35 (from a 2006 maxima). What parts would you guys suggest I replace while the engine is out of the car. Below is a list of the parts that just make since to me but if I am missing anything please let me know. The engine only has 65k on it so I didnt want to do the timing tensioner (basically I just didnt want to remove the cover or replace the chains), however I am open to replacing the plastic guides if you all think thats a good idea.
Valve cover gaskets
Spark plug cover Gaskets
Oil heater/filter gasket
4 motor mounts (the car has 250k on it)
Anything else that comes to mind please speak up.

Take my advice and replace at least the slack tensioner guide for the main timing chain. I swapped an 06 Altima with less mileage than yours 2 years ago and assumed the timing chain guides were ok..wrong. I wish I had taken the extra time prior to installation and changed that slack guide, as I now have the typical noise at startup, and doing the work with the engine in the car, though it can be done, is far more time consuming and looks like it will be a royal pita.

People replace the timing chain tensioners on those 6th gen engines. When I did my swap I checked the rear main seal and replaced:
-The 2 moon shaped gasket on the upper oil pan
-the two oil o-rings on the upper oil pan
-resealed the lower oil pan
-valve cover gaskets
-spark plugs
-all fluids
-PCV valve
I am sure I have done more, but it has been a while.

Thanks guys. This is exactly the info I wanted. I don't know what the half moon seals are but can figure it out.
I know a lot of parts are interchangeable between cars/years. For example the 06 valve covers are better than the 02. Are any of these seals/adjusters better from a specific year?

The half moon seals are part of the upper oil pan/block.
One is under the crank pulley and the other just below the rear main.

At around 70K I had to replace the slack guide because the plastic cracked. This made the chain loose and started rattling. A $13 part became a few hundred dollar fix by the time I got done. Nothing else inside was excessively worn, but I was already elbow deep in you know what so I wanted to take care of everything I could while the front timing cover was off.
At the very least take the inspection covers off and check what you can.

The car needs help
The 6th gen is pretty known for a ****ty timing chain assembly I'm finding out... I have the service engine light in my 04 maxima. With rattling from the engine bay by the power steering fluid. Any Input or solutions?
123k miles stock
119k before I got it
I had it 2 months before all this happened

Yes, my input is don't thread jack someone else's thread. Start your own thread in the 6th gen forum.
