I love fact that our cars are the under dogs of the tuner scene. No body expects a FWD 4 door family car to perform the way they do. Every time a non Maxima enthusiast rides with me, they are like WTF! And the sound of that VQ screaming is beautiful thing to hear.

I love that it's:
1) Paid for
2) Still looks great at almost 190K miles
3) Never gives me any trouble
4) Gets upwards of 30 MPG on a trip
5) Is easy to maintain
6) Is comfy to drive

First off, I wrote SO CALLED SUPERIOR, don't quote me out of context. The 81 Maxima was a small light car despite the 3box sedan body. The 2.4L L24E inline 6 had 138 SAE hp. It could beat any late 70's early 80's 2nd or 3rd Gen Camaro with the 110 SAE hp 262 CID V8 and could hang with the 155 SAE hp 305 CID V8 models. Same goes for the 3rd gen Mustangs of that day with the 120 SAE hp 265 CID V8 and the GT's 302 CID HO V8 had 157 SAE hp. The 1st gen Maxima was out of production before Ford came out with the 210 SAE hp roller cam 302 V8. As far as handling goes the 1st gen Maxima had the same RWD 4wheel independent suspension as the 280ZX. So no contest for the live axle Camaro & Mustang chassis crowd and no problem cornering or accelerating with "The ultimate driving machine" sedans of the early 80's. Not to mention the Triumphs/MG's and other British sports cars of that era. It was lots of fun driving a 1st gen Maxima! Are we having fun yet, Mr. smart guy?
BTW; You initiated the Honda vs. Nissan crap.

but what I was getting to orginally its that your comparing a 4cyl to a v6, apples to oranges basically. So my respond to that was come on over and I'll show a 4 cyl that'll embaress ur v6.

Are you serious? your not only talking about cylinder difference but also technology difference! Its like comparing an 80's Maxima vs a 10's Maxima... lol Come on lets be realistic here.

I fail to see the superior v8 in all this BS? Funny thing is that I knew you were going to say such models for camaro and GTs... I promise u I knew. Not only were they not performance oriented but also a fkn tank down the street they were made after the fuel crisis why the hell would they make them any better?... lol

BTW I didnt initiate such a thing, I was poking fun at SESixSpeed and we just went into 4cyl vs v6 blah blah blah... It would've been the same deal if he would've said sentra, corolla, 323, cavalier, escort, get the drift?

the look, the ride while dropped, the room inside, the luxury, the power, the handling, the color, that fact its a sleeper and nobody expects to get smoked, but most of all there has not been one time when i was walking to my car that the thought "oh man i hope this thing starts" has ever popped in my head I LOVE THAT

all in all i just love my max

OK, <soapbox mode off>! I guess the coolest thing about Maximas is they're over achiever's in all categories. And why it was so much fun to embarrass the "Cool Dudes" driving Camaros and Mustangs 'dusted' by my 81 Maxima, back in the day. Same holds true for my current 01, it delivers 'smiles per gallon'! (ouch)

Ill take over from here....lets see here corvettes are superior correct? the 70s and 80s corvettes were terrible and the max would outrun them and to raise you one ill go with the early model z28s of the same time frame. Supposed to be superior v8's but not. This is a Nissan forum. Dont talk about Hondas and get back talk and be a bad sport about it

Besides being free, it's almost as easy to mod as my Mustang. Despite what's been said, it's definitely not as fast or better handling, but it'll do for a winter car.

How does a thread about what you love about your maxima turn into hondas beating maxima's okay now that you all had your lil venting time let's return the thread to what original purpose was, which is "what do you love most about your maxima"

I can't get over how roomy it is inside especially the back when you push the seats fowrward. You can do so much in the back there and the trunk can hold everything that you can put in it

Love everything about this car, but +1 for heated steering wheel. Bought my Max used, but if I would've bought one new and they asked me if I wanted that option, I would've laughed. Now I couldn't live without it.

It will always be a sleeper. A family sedan with some giddy up does a body good. The styling on 95 to 03 Maxima's are my favorite and not many "regular" cars look as good.

Of course your bored out block and extremely modded 2.0 L gsr would move good. How much money was sunk into the motor? You are talking about a serious build once you bore out the block, change piston type, change compression ratios, and I'm sure you upgraded your cams as well, 2 layer metal head gasket, and so forth...

What were the dyno numbers for the 2.0 L? Was it n/a or turbo'd? Once you begin to seriously mod the motor and change the internals and compression and up your whp you will now have a better Power to Weight ratio which is a key factor for walking over any other car regardless of engine size and technology.

I actually meant to delete the post as i dont want to insight a riot ... Anywho yes my gsr was built cams pistons rods and tuning ..dyno 228 to the wheels ... I loved the car but heavily modded cars can be daily driven but i wouldnt recommend it ... the sound of 9000rpm , 4th gear gear chirps and spanking my brothers maxima was priceless
Funny thing is even though it used to be me and honda vs my bother and maximas now we both own maximas ... I left 4 banger land since new platforms 350z ,335i start with higher hp and require less work then my old teggy ... Money spent jeez lets say at least say 10k .... Lesson for me learned keep heavily modded car seperate for daily hence the max and plans for project 350z

^^Couldn't agree more. Quite a build to squeeze 228 n/a whp out of the 4 banger. I'm sure by all the mods you were probably getting the same gas mileage as a 6 cylinder Max also unless you had an amazing tuner and it couldn't supply the amount of comfort and power combo as the Maxima brings. I like the "full" package offered by the Maxima over the "potential" of the B series motor. Heck, if you threw 10 g's at the 3.5 V6, the powah, oh the powah...

I'm not sure if this point has been made before in this thread. The Maxima is a Mid-Sized Family Sedan, designed to compete with cars like the Accord, Camry, Gallant, Lumina, Passat, Taurus, and etc. To the best of my knowledge the SHO is the only car that even comes close to the Maxima 4DSC concept. Any other comparison is apples to oranges.

"What do you light most about your maxima?" I don't know to break it down any simpler. I like the power,it's a 6spd,it's luxurious, sporty, the ride.etc...

I mean if you can't contribute to the thread about "what you love about your maxima" you're not obligated to comment

I thought the post praised the Maxima pretty well. Sorry if I tried to initiate some intelligent conversation to get the thread off the Honda vs. Maxima BS.

So to make it simple I'll fix it.

Why I love my 5.5 gen maxima

The fact that you need to have a good grip on the heated steering wheel when you unleash that sleeper VQ35. Perfect combination of luxury and performance.

Over the last few days I've been switching between my max and my grand am...and when I drive the max, I have a better road experience.

I love the ease of everything. A light tap on the gas and I'm already at 45mph. Merging onto the freeway? Pfft piece of cake. I love this car!

The thing I love most about my Maxima is whenever I feel like the magic is starting to wear off.

My car will out of the blue surprise me with its power once in a while.

- Roomy interior
- How the VQ can take a beating and still give great gas mileage
- Already paid for
- How the car get constant looks and "thumbs up" from peeps at stoplights/ carshows/meets. Not many modded Maxes here..

One of my best friends took a ride with me couple weeks back and told me afterwards, "Damn- this sure ain't grandma's car!!"..

I have owned 4- fourth gen maximas, 2 auto and 2 manual. Manual is alot quicker. Put a 2012 accord coupe in his place, which is over 260 hp by the way.
With a pos maxima with 240,000 miles and some mods. The guy most have thought wtf, a grocery getter? The vq has alot of power, this is what i love about it. All of my maximas were high miles and never broke down. Why is the vq so fast, notice on a manual how fast this engine redlines between shifts. I thought my h22 was quick, until i got owned by a auto maxima. Yes the maxima is a sleeper, that is what i love the most about it!!!
