Whats an average Custom B pipe cost at an exhaust shop?

I've been going back and forth with shops and they won't quote me until they see the car. I explained to them on phone and email exactly what I needed and they have yet to respond.

Anyways, here's my request:

-Remove stock B pipe/stock Resonator/stock muffler
-Weld 2.5" piping to a 5th Gen Muffler Inlet
-Install 22"x4" magnaflow resonator
-Add necessary bends to custom B pipe and weld a provided Flange to the catalytic end of the Resonator/B pipe.

Not that complicated right? What should I be looking at for a fair price? Most likely pressure bent, but i had one shop say they have mandrel bends and if they do, i'd only request them for the 90* bends.

Is the smaller outlet the "low end" port?

Any shop that will give you a price quote for doing that probably doesn't know what they are doing. Once you have been burned a few times on underestimating, you learn to tell people to come down so you can see it, than you take a look and tell them your hourly rate and how long you think it will take or what it books out at. Quit wasting everyones time trying to save $50, bring it to the place with the mandrel bender (since they are probably the best equipped and used to doing stuff like this) and don't be a pita customer, just drop it off and say "This is what I want you to do, keep it for however long you need it, and do you have a ballpark of how much it's going to run me"

The words "average" and "custom" don't belong in the same work request.

I don't try to be a PITA customer, im real polite and try to explain exactly what I need done to not leave out any "hidden surprises" for them. But around here you gotta be careful especially being a "oh this kid wants a exhaust on his import...KA-CHING". I feel i don't get taken seriously because of the fact i want a 2.5" exhaust in a Maxima. They look at me like, "why in the world would you do that?"

Anyways, I did what you said. I went to a local mandrel bending shop and guy the didnt even look at my car. He said, "what kind of car is it and year?" I told him and what I needed done in detail and he said, 160$ for non-mandrel and 220$ for mandrel. So I could have just saved the drive and given them a call.

Now again, is this a fair price? This is why i made the thread, to get an idea what price range would be fair.

It just annoys me when shops in the area do this and they act like they're giving you a legit price without even taking a look at what your working with. Only time someone looked at my car about my exhaust was when I requested bolts torched off my cat. He told me it was hopeless and that my y pipe wasnt going to come off and telling me its going to cost this and that for a new manifold and yada yada

Well, i went home and grind-ed the cat off myself, unbolted the y pipe, and now i have a new warpspeed.

I just don't like mechanics/shops. Especially when they stereotype you as just some ricer kid.

That quoted price sounds about right for what is going to be done to it. The exhaust on my 86 maxima from the cat to the muffler(no resonator and pressure bent) cost me about 130 or so a couple of years back.

Got it done. Guy was good and very nice. He even told me how I can get the broken stud off my y pipe/manifold and provided me with a stud/nut to replace it with. His work was top notch and he did everything I asked without question. He did comment i was restricting the 2.5" to the 5th gen 2" inlet, i don't blame him but apparently its still good as a "high flow" muffler for my setup. Im please with the sound but the warpspeed y pipe rasp is so annoying. You can definitely here a difference from the front of the car and the back.

Allied Mufflers in Bell Flower on Lakewood blvd.

Thanks for advice, that's why I love this place. Tough love.

material cost on a retail level for 2 2.5" flanges, 1 90*, 1 45*, 3 ft of straight piping would be around $120 + 80-90 for magnaflow 2.5 resonator, labor to weld varies from 50-120 (MIG or TIG)
built a setup for a customer for about $350 all TIG welded, but built for 3"
eventually finished the job w/ Thermal R&D muffler and a few misc bends for $350 more.
Did a side exit for another max owner which cost $280 including super quiet resonator in place of factory cat.

You should come to the hooters meet this weekend, so we can hear it( and see how bad the rasp really is).

Sounds kinda like open headers. Check for leaks, either that or the muffler you got may be shot. I have a warpspeed y on my car with the exact same magmaflow resonator, an my stock 5th gen muffler, and it doesn't sound that loud( still not perfect though). Is the y-pipe used? I have heard the flex section in these can fail quickly.

ill record a clip with the mic a bit further away, i think thats the problem. Its not loud at all when driving. I hear the rasp of the y pipe under me, more than I do the exhaust tone.

But whatever, my old rusty exhaust is gone! Thats all im worried about. If i was going for sound, i would of got a aftermarket muffler.

did you ever get a new clip? if it sounds anything like mine(exact same setup, except on a 5th gen) it is a slight bit raspy(but sounds great when you get it to 3k rpms in 2nd or 3rd at close to WOT), but that is more due to the y-pipe than the rest of the exhaust.
