rebuilt title?

sorry if this is a stupid question or w.e...but a friend of mine got a bangin price on a 5th gen with a rebuilt title. I know a rebuilt title means the car was once totaled and now someone fixed it and it went from salvage- rebuilt. Now the car had rear end damage that was repaired, and we are going to do a good check out on the car to make sure it was fixed properly and what not.

My question is, is there any way to get a rebuilt title changed to a clean title?...not sure if that would be legal or not but i am curious to know if there is any chance we could get it changed

thanks for any responses

It's possible, but not legal.

the title itself doesn't matter anyway. It only affects resale value. If he got the thing cheap enough and he's planning on keeping it a few years, then resale value doesn't matter. it'll only be worth a couple thousand bucks in 5 years no matter what kind of title it was.

Now.. if you were talking about an '07 with a rebuilt title from a fender-bender, that's different. but a 5th gen doesn't have a whole lot of value anyway so there's no point in washing it just to have a clean title.

That's why you should always have a used car checked for damage before you buy, any reputable shop will be able to tell what has been fixed.

def not legal, but from what i understand the only downside to having this title is you cant trade the car in at the dealership, but even so you would make more money selling it privately, i dont know maybe im wrong
