Fix-A-Flat > Spare Tire ??
I've been thinking about this for a while. I recently bought a can of Fix-A-Flat in case i ever got a flat, and then started to wonder if I should even continue with my spare, especially since most of my driving is within my city on a daily basis (it's a big city though). if anything i could just get a few more cans of this fixaflat stuff in case i somehow get all fours tires flat and carry those around instead of the spare.
in the case i'll be making a long trip, i could just pop the spare back in and be on my way.
of course, there's always the call up a family member or friend and ask them to bring you a spare option as well

fix-a-flat did nothing for me when I had a blow out on the highway. It just oozed from the gash in my tire. You also have to inflate your tire to replace the air lost from the incident. So perhaps you would use the spare to get to the gas station, then use the fix-a-flat and air compressor to attempt to fix the old tire.

Some things to keep in mind about Fix-a-Flat
The car needs to be driven right away after the Fix-a-Flat is used. The sealant in the magic can needs to circulate evenly inside the tire to fill the leaky hole and ride evenly.
Fix-a-Flat is designed to get you to a safe place only and should never be considered a permanent tire repair. Fix the hole properly as soon as possible.
If you have your tire repaired at a shop, be sure to tell them you used Fix-a-Flat. They need to know that your tire is filled with aerosol gases and not just air.

I always make it a point to tell them that the tire has fix a flat in it and they dont seem to worried about it. As if im mentioning unimportant info. Does this stuff have an expiration date? The one in my trunk has to be YEARS old.<--Lucky me.

dont the cans of fix a flat explode in high heat? I live in AZ so the temp reaches 115+ degrees in summer and even hotter in the trunk. I wouldnt leave one anywhere in my car for that reason. Maybe, maybe not just my .02

lol yea i could imagine that would be true. im sure theres a warning somewhere on the can about that. storage temp. or something.

I recently hit a pothole, gashed the sidewall. fixaflat would have done nothing.
its primary use is nail holes and the like. and the time you waste with the can, you could have jacked the car up and had the wheel off, already.
either way, you still need to get the tire fixed. You may as well throw the spare on, so you can just drop the tire off at the shop to be fixed and do your errands while waiting.

Yeah I've heard that not only is it not good for your tire but it can eat at your spare wheel also. I've used it once and ended up replacing the tire cuz it would vibrate like hell going down the road with all that stuff inside it even after driving it for 10 miles.
