My mom needs to buy a car within the next few weeks. Came down to these two for now. Saw the new Maxima this Saturday, and its a nice car, nothing wrong with it, has all the options of the Acura plus some extras.
Color choice for both is DWP.
Nissan is available with it/ Acura have to wait/hard to find.
Nissan is about $27,700 with some creative negotiating, fully loaded/ Acura hoping to find at about 26,500-27,000 (prices just for the car)
Nissan has better paint
Acura has better warranty (4/50) vs(3/36)
Nissan will be easier to find
Acura holds the resale value better
Nissan 255hp/246lb-fts
Acura 225hp/200(?)
Nissan wears Potenzaz
Acura has Michelins
Nissan has heated steering wheel, which Acura does not have.
Nissan is also available right now.
Acura is a better brand name.
Nissan is the newest so you get to have the newest car for about a month
Please help.

Pesonally, I think both brands are very great, and both have low-maintenence and great build quality. Honda used to always be a little more refined than Nissan, but the gap is almost close to nothing now. Nissan has gained enough expereince to match the refinment qualities that Honda (and Toyota) has.
But I think you should go with the Nissan. Nissan always brings out innovative new features which I care a great deal about (It's fun, and no one else has it ). And you're asking a forum that's pro-maxima, so most everyone else will say Nissan too.

That's argumentative and subjective at best.
TL shouldn't be difficult to locate if you are in NE/So Cal area. Goto www.acura-tl.com and you can pull up a list of Acura dealers in your area.

assuming you can get either of those cars at those prices id say go for the TL
if anything goes wrong with the car you'll be glad you arent at the nissan service center
yea the TLs slower but to me it seems that it has more than enough power already

If we are talking about the 260hp TL-S then I'd buy that over the Maxima GLE. IMO, the TL-S is better looking and has a nicer interior. It also has a 5-speed auto which makes use of it's power at all rpms. I don't think the GLE will be near as quick as the TL-S simply because the TL-S has deeper gearing. Put a nice set of 17s, front lip, and springs on the TL-S and you'll have pretty sweet ride. There have already been TL-S' breaking into the 14s bonestock. I doubt the 255hp GLE will run any better than a 15.3 stock.

all this rubish ..bla.bla
yea tru, the acura tl-s was and will always be a great car but now that nissan decided to turn up the heat with the max coming out with .h.i.d. 6sp.260hp gps and hicas on the se . bla .bla .bla .no comp hear ..but I also think the '02 TL-S grill and body lines look beutiful..still around wher i live ..miami"kendall" to be exact I see tl-'s everywhere so to freshen up and balance thing's out a little the once again to the maxima I go ..and if I did have one I would come to a red light and honk to big gramp's in his '02 TL-S and tell him to think twice about merging into that lane coming before me ..haha..r.i.p vq30de..hello.sweet vq35de.6.sp ahhh .I love technology ..

That's easy...
Go with the Max. The Acura-TLp is nice but so is a fully loaded Max and you get the best V-6 in almost any class. The Maxima will outrun a TLp with 255 hp and it'll probably have just as good a reliability as the Acura (I heard the tranny's SUCK on the TL/CL cause it keeps breaking).

and think! People won't think you have "some ol' Acura."
Well maybe not that, but it just depends on what your style is. If you like big-time business man, suave guy in a suit, go with the TL. If you like to cruise around, are more laid back, the Maxima seems more suitable, in more ways than one.

A simple question...do you mean the TL or the TL-S? I ask that because the #'s (specs, prices) you give are for the plain TL and if I was to choose between the TL and the 2k2 Max, it's not a contest...Max all the way. The TL-S is a totally different story; at least it's on the same level as the fully loaded 2k2 Max. I would still go with the Max though.

The TL-S is at least $30k for sure.

Thanks for the replies (comments on some thigns said)
Well, I have a CLS (01 Acura CL Type S) and I have had some minor issues with it which neither I nor my family ever had with any of the Nissans we owed.
I am comparing TL-P, which like someone stated is a regular TL with 225HP, because GLE and TL-P are in the similar price range. The TLS will be about 29,000.
Acura does not seem to be having transmission problems, there only have been very few select trannies going bad on a few CLSes, have not heard about any TLs.
Acura is deffinetly a better brand name than Nissan, now Acura Vs Infinity, thats a different argument.
DWP is a hard to find color for the Acura.
As far as I know nissan's warranty is 3/36000, someone correct me here.

Things I like about Maxima;
Made in Japan.
Chain VS timing belt. No need for replacement.
