i went to route1 nissan today to get my ignition problem fixed..
after 6 hours i come to pick up my car to find that nothing has been done to it, kinda deceiving after the guy that called said its all taken care of..i started the car and wow it feels just as bad as before, so i go to talk to the guy and he says that its normal because of the fuel additive they just introduced.. i asked him if he could show me any other car in the lot that did the same thing and he said no, and im wondering why the other cars in my household who also use amoco premium dont have the problem, and why other maximas dont have the problem, he just told me to press the accelerator 1/4 the way down and to call 1800 nissan1..
anyone know about this fuel additive thing and could care to explain it?
(Btw the problem is my car goes like chkchkchkchkchk to start, instead of the normal chkchk start, its a VERY obvious problem)
thanks

what you need to know...

is that you dont start until the #1 cyl fires... so if you miss the first one, the crank has to go all the way around.. unlike hondas... bam, start in a millisecond.

I know this from my starting issues.

Yes, additives are bad. there is a fuel brand not to get... I dont remember who it was, but its NOT exxon. Try out some prem exxon.

Btw, the dealer tried to give me additive.. they said to only use 1/4 of the recommended dose per tank. I said "hell no, find the problem, not this stupid work around.." My problem seemed to work out... but I was going to get new plugs and coils on my next visit.

You also could have a leaky injector... does this only happen after the car has sat for a given amount of time? Mine would do it if I shut the car off still cold (short drive) and then tried to restart in less then 20 mins.

if its comforting at all, alot of us had this problem... for most of us, it just cleared up at 5K-10K

but I heard of leaky injectors, bad coil, or fuel fouled plugs (from occasionally leaky injector or running too rich all the time (alot of VERY short trips))

i have 11,300 miles on my car, and i could drive for 2 hours straight at highway speeds, turn off the car and when i try to turn it on it does the same thing..
i highly doubt it's an amoco problem either as ive always used it and everyone in my household uses it and no one else has a prob, im just very suspicious that the guy was talking bull**** especially since he refused to show me another car that did the same thing

As you have a 5th Gen, you may have a leaky coil as well. Check out:
