Does anyone know if a 97 bumper will fit onto a 96 max with NO modifications?.. Reason I am asking is gettinga new bumper and the 97 stillen rears look cooler so would like to get those instead of the 96... I am gettinga new bumper anyways so why not get the 97... anyone know if this is a no modification swap?

well, i remember someone stating the 97-99 rear bumper was ~2inch longer (not wider) than the 95-96...as far as a direct swap...i believe it will be a direct swap...

Okay here is my .02

First look closely at the bumper and trunk of a 97 Max. I know there trunk is different and it may require you to change the trunk. And if you have to change the trunk then you'll have to also change the tail lamps. I'm not sure if the 96 trunk will line up correctly with the 97 rear bumper. But do a little snooping around in a local parking lot and check out the bumper of the 97.

I dont think it would be a problem but defintitely check it out before you get stuck with a bumper that wont line up correctly.

Not much of an answer, sorry.

maybe because we don't want to answer your question. i mean after all you have like 20 yrs auto experience right? go get a damn tape measure and walk up to a 97-99 and check the size. how lazy can you get!??!? yeah we don't know jack..that's why YOU'RE asking the question.

wait a second.. why are you asking about bumper conversions? i thought you were giving your 96 Max to your little sister because you were getting a 2k maxima.. you said that when you were selling your HKS ignition thing for $250 .. after you said it had great gains.. now i know you didn't lie about that.. so is this bumper conversion for your sister?

The reason I am looking at doing it is cause i got rear ended last week.. They will be giving me a new bumper anyways so i figured why not get a 97. So Im not really spending any money on it.. would be a basically free mod. Besides I am not sure when i get my dads 2k.. He just bought a vacation house and a boat in florida so its only a matter of time till he gets a new ride. In the mean time i figured why not get me a 97 bumper for free. Sorry for the confusion.. Sorry for saying you guys dont know jack, I was just kidding and trying to get a better answer out of you.

The 97-99 rear bumpers extend about 2" further than the 95-96. Is there any particular reason why you would want to get a 97-99 bumper over a 95-96? Really, there's no huge difference.

I have the 97-99 bumper on my 95, yes they fit perfectly. All you have to do is drill holes into the frame to secure the supports. also you need the bumper guard for the inside of the trunk lid so that it doesn't damage the lid. Check out my site for pics.

Hey, just one more question since I am still confused. You put the 97-99 bumper on and the 97-99 lights fit right? I am confused because on this thread it just says you have to replace the trunk lid:
Can Life Be Any More Unfair!

So, my final question is, what is the exact parts you have to replace to get 97-99 lights to fit (someone who has done it please)... and GTR_Rider, I tried going to the link, but it doesnt work... Do you have another place where I can see pics of your car?

Wow, way to dig up an old thread ... The outer taillights are interchangable but the inner taillights aren't the same so you need a new trunk lid or you need a lot of custom work

Not necesarily ... It doesn't HAVE to be changed. But the pattern of the top of the bumper and the bottom of the trunk lid vary from 95-96 to 97-99. Most people wouldn't notice it, but you would

It is very hard to tell between 95-96 bumpers and 97-99 bumpers but being that I have been searching for months I just noticed whether the seller knows the year or not I noticed the 95-96 bumpers license plate has to square cut outs and the 97-99 does not and also has a 4 inch line going through.

97-99 no cutouts with line

95-96 square cut outs
