Moped, or a bicycle if you can survive on one. To be honest, when you really think about it, it's better to move closer to where you work, I know for me, I'm almost at work more than I'm at home.

The open window aero vs. AC myth has been disproved, you get worst gas mileage with the AC on and the windows up than you do with the AC off and the windows down. Unfortunately, I am annoyed by the wind most of the time so it's AC for me.

Dead wrong! At speeds over 40 mph, you use more gas with the windows down and AC off than you do with the windows up and AC on.

K&N doesn't help. In fact, they don't filter as well as normal filters - if it contaminates the intake and sensors, could hurt fuel economy. If you doubt me, check about the people who get MAF codes after installing a K&N.

1) Shift before 3k, go light on the throttle. "Having fun" is irrelevant, 90% of the time you hit the gas too hard without thinking about it.
2) Use cruise control
3) Remove unnecessary exterior items that create aerodynamic drag (bike rack, door window plastic shields, etc)

Here are some maintenance items, in rough order of bang/buck:
1) Check tire pressures, run 35 in front and 32 in back
2) Clean IACV, TB
3) Remove and clean engine ground wires (ground is any electrical wire that bolts directly to the engine block or frame)
4) Test Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and replace if not correct.
5) New air filter (any standard replacment is fine)
6) Fuel Filter
7) New spark plugs. Go with OEM only.
8) New front Oxygen Sensors.
9) Check for ghost knock sensor code, and if you have that code with no others, replace the knock sensor.
9) Run some fuel injector cleaner.

aerodynamics play a role in that. at speeds at over 40mph, you'll create more drag if the windows are down, filling the cabin w/ air. Roll those windows up and you'll be fine...i dunno about the A/C factor.

In addition to the other comments, a new pcv valve will keep gas flowing more smoothly. It's a cheap part, can be replaced fairly easily and quickly, and I did notice a gain of a couple mpg city driving. If you can park in the shade, you can also help to keep your a/c running less or possibly not at all.

every since i started paying a 1.50 a quart for gas im feeling the pain of the VQ but heck for that kinda money it will make you weep like an old lady to fill up a pushmower gas tank.

what can you do besides walk, ride a bike, motorcycle, buy car with tiny 1.5 liter engine (honda), drive like a 80 year old ?

this whole gas thing is really making cars, and driving a luxury. I mean for 20 dollars I can drive like a wildman for a few hours and then get off my maxima ride. ha, with these prices its more like a ride at a theme park than taking a good old cruise on the weekends.
