Long Time, OG, I been here for ever Org Members Chime in !
Hey, just wondering who has been here for a long time and who has been here since day one or close to it. Whats the history of this place, can anyone take us through the years of maxima.org.
In the beginning i wonder if there were only a handful of members, and did anyone think the forum would have grown to what it is today !! When did the org start anyways (19xx) ?
I have not been here long but since I have been here it would seem lately that some of the guys are selling cars in the 4th gen scheme of things and moving on, and at the same time new guys are coming along. I also see some guys going turbo which basically they move on to the turbo forum. There really is a huge world here at the org in 2005. And you can actually be a die hard part of the boards in your little niche but never come across or meet other people (example: 6th Gen Forum)
Again, any old school people around that can tell some stories of the old days and how things are different or has changed.
Maxima.org is an internet-based Nissan Maxima enthusiast site dedicated to information exchange about Maximas of all years. This site is designed to be a resource for Maxima owners, potential owners, and enthusiasts looking for other's to learn from, exchange information with, and teach about this great sedan.
Where it started
Quote:
The current Maxima.org site started as an incarnation of Evan You's "Maxima SE Website" back in the mid-1990's. Evan had one of the most detailed sites on the net about the 4th generation (1995-1999) Maxima. In addition to being a general information site, Evan also had a bulletin-board system (BBS) that allowed visitors to leave messages to others who may be able to help. The popularity of this area of the site grew quickly and more Maxima owners were turning to the Internet for Maxima information.
Shaun Tran's 'NISMO'
Quote:
Around the time Evan's BBS starting to get more popular, another Maxima owner, Shaun Tran, started a site called 'NISMO' (the NISan Maxima Organization) and it was also devoted to the sharing of Maxima information. Hosted By Gene Tsygan on a personal computer, and registered under the Internet address, 'maxima.ml.org', Shaun, Russ Zotz and Andi Baritchi, developed NISMO into a formidable Maxima website.
Jamie Sandford's Maxima.org
Quote:
With a compelling schedule as a student at the University of Texas at Austin, Andi was becoming increasingly busy with maintaining the new NISMO site. In April of 1999, Andi passed on the management of the site to Jamie Sandford. Jamie took the site, which had become unmanageable over several owners' time, and started from the ground up, building a site that would carry Maxima enthusiasts into the next millennium.
Bringing Maxima.org to the next level
Quote:
Over time, Jamie became increasingly busy like the past owners. On November of 2002, ownership of the well established and growing site was passed onto the current owner, Kevin Chin. With the large community already in place, Kevin added another dimension in offering Maxima.org branded merchandise. Plans to make the community grow have already started and will unfold in due time.
I came around in the days of the NISMO board when Andi was running things.. shortly thereafter it went over to Chad's Maxima BBS on socrates.math.ohio-state.edu
Oh man, I loved the days of the Vote To Delete button!

remember booker's stories (as the BBS turns)...
russ changes cars like underwear...
woodear's flameage...
JimW and his crazy street races...
the craze of stillen T2 spolier on 4th gens...(did the factory burn down?)
DavidL7 and his red/clear...(people used to complain about the prices then...now they are selling like gold)...
server errors?
I lurked here before the 5th gen forum was up I was an actual member after it started, before there was a 1st and 2nd gen forum so I had to post everything of mine in the General forum. Finally, they made 1st and 2nd gen forums and then combined them into one as you see now. That was around the time the Atlanta Maximas were known for not having very many meets or people there. Now, the Atlanta crew has grown. I remember Jgadlage and all the OG's here. Man, those were the days. And there werent any stupid *** posts either. This place has grown tremendously. I also missed all Maxus' which sucked. Maxus 99 I missed because my parents at the time didnt trust me driving to Dallas by myself. I missed Maxus 2k because by the time I moved there, it had already happened. The DC one well I wasnt going to drive that far. Im back in Texas and I wont miss this Maxus!

Even before that was Bryan's 3rd Gen BBS which, I believe is still around. I was an original member on that one, too. Man, the good old days. Since this places existed, I've went from a 3rd Gen, to a 4th Gen (I30t), to my current 5th Gen.
I've also met a lot of good friends out of this place.

"The twin-cam six is so sweet and eager,
the five-speed so perfectly slick,
the chassis so hunkered down and trustworthy,
think about it - what if there is no afterlife?
This may be as good as it ever gets."
- Car and Driver, May 1996
Well I remember all the server busy messages, Jambo's days, Russ, and Kevin beating 2 Porsches on the highway. If only I had joined the site a year earlier when I was still looking for cars to buy...would have saved me a lot of money and made my life a lot earlier.
I don't post that much either.....
