i had that size tire on my old 1990 maxima gxe. when it was time to change tires, i switched to 215/60-15. i went with dunlop d60a2, they were good performers and pretty quiet too. the next set, i got dunlop d40m2 z-rated tires. they would stick like crazy on the road....
i have a 99 se, with 225/55-16, but i went with dunlop sp sport 8000, they are nice too. maybe you can get them in your size... i know the d40m2 are no longer made...

If you want to research it in depth, with road tests, owner recommendations, etc, there isn't a better source than www.tirerack.com

225/60 15's
I was just wondering about this guys--since I bought my tires awhile back...the stocks tires on the Max is the 205/65 15's but one size up would be the 215/60 15...now my question was (at that time no one could answer it)--would 225/60's fit on the stock 15" rims? I know our rims are 6.5" wide along with the 16" alloys on the SE's. Now if ppl on the SE can put 225's...I thought couldn't we put 225/60's on our 15's.
Another question for ya--how do they fit--the 225's on your stock rims? they are alright? no problems thus far?

I would go 215/60 15s, as Nissan used to spec this size tire on the 95 and 96 SEs as well as the 92 to 94 SEs, which both had 15x6.5" rims.
In Nissan's cost cutting brilliance, the 97 to 99 GLEs which have the exact same 15x6.5" rims as the 95-96 SEs use 205/65 15s as the standard rubber.......I guess that saved them a cool couple of bucks/vehicle.....

in the beginning
Bill,
thanks for the wisdom there. Yeah, I noticed that the GLE's are the same look as the 95,96 Se's and it was 6.5. But I was never sure of the 215/65 R15 size wheels for the Dunlop sp5000 tires. Those were my first choice. But since I wasj't sure about that size, I went with the 215/60 firestone SH30's.
I have noticed that Nissan does a lot of things in an effort to cut costs--such as the Maximas really being the same car despite the trim levels...but only their interior goodies are different--same for all the cars they make...and spreding that across the infiniti line.
hey, appreciate your thought again.

but I doubt that's 'optimal', especially on a 15 inch rim. Would be a little too wide for my comfort.

what brand of tire?
Thank you for that info about the diameter size and it really is miniscule in relation to the original OEM sizes...I was just wondering as to what tires you have mounted on your15X6.5 rims?
I really wanted the dunlop sp5000 back then but I wasn't sure about the 225/60 15". I actually have seen BMW 5 series (mid to early 90's that use that same size tires 225/60 15"s)
btw, anyone notice the difference in performance between the 225/60 15 vs. the 205/65's?

No, the stock GLE and SE rims are 15x6.5 and the steel rims are 15X6. As for track tires no opinion for you, I will say check out the Dunlops they perform well, but if you are looking super high traction, change your rims and go with the Bridgestone S-02 pole postions. Have them on my Z and man do they hold the road.
