New pics of Shadow's Car (Still a work in progress)

Just got done on some more work on Shadow's car since the pictures of the repainted exterior. Rewired all the gauges, installed the reupholstered seats, and dialed in the engine tuning for its current boost level. It put down 301whp and 312.4ft-lb torque on the dyno and ran a 13.8@105 on the track.

Here are the pics:

Black/Silver Seats w/ embroidered EA logos on the Corbeau A4 Seats

Dash still has to be pulled and replaced along with the steering wheel

Custom molded 4 gauge pillar pod paint matched

Greddy E-manage mounting under passenger seat

Engine bay still needs polish work and ceramic coating on the turbo

Still trying to get the 20" wheels on there and probably a front brake upgrade since those 300Z calipers look tiny already and the car's getting hard to stop at the track. No stereo at all right now either but that'll have to wait until after Bristol. Then we go back, install the E01 boost controller and go for 10psi and drag radials at the track.

Full specs here

Hey, when you turbo a maxima (4th gen) do you have to modify the auto tranny to handle more power? How much power does a stock auto tranny handle?

The tranny is stock w/ a VB upgrade and custom LSD. I really wouldn't recommend leaving it stock, but so far the shifts are clean and it is holding up.

liquid, we're still dialing the car in at the track. It isn't seeing full boost in the first 2 gears, so we're not making full power passes. The times will go down soon. And it's making the runs on 19"s so traction is an issue.

Dixit, the AF is just a place holder for now. being replaced w/ a temp gauge shortly. But I couldn't just leave the empty hole

Shadow, I praise you for you awsome car. I was wondering, What do you mean by a custom LSD, I thought automatic cars couldnt have LSDs. I also thought the the VB mod was good but it put more pressure on the tranny. Someone told me hes seen 4th gen maximas with 450+ hp... but on a manual. How much will the auto tranny be able to take? Thanks for any info.

Peace and goodluck.

Automatic cars can have lsds b/c they use the exact same method for putting power to the ground after the tranny but prior to this nobody built one for the automatic Maxima. Shadow had a simple clutch type differential made w/ hardened gears from the stock differential. It's leaves very cool double tire tracks on drag launches showing its getting good traction.

The VB mod shifts the tranny at full line pressure each shift meaning there is less time slipping between shifts and less damage to the clutches from slippage. The stock components can fail at this level but we don't abuse the car and the stock transmission has lasted over 100k now and it shows no signs of slipping yet. We let the car cool between hard runs and the tranny cooler helps on the excess heat generated.

The car has done 30+ dyno runs at anywhere from 270ft-lb of torque to 312ft-lbs in the past 6 months along with a handful of track runs. It's made a best of 301 horsepower to the wheels so far at 7psi and we're hoping to reach 330-350hp before having any tranny problems as long as we're careful. According to some people it should have failed long ago. At the same time plenty of other auto tranny cars have blown up at much lower power levels. The car has 101k on it and probably 20k or so was supercharged prior to his turbo setup.

It's really filthy right now. We've been installing/modifying stuff in there for a while. When it's done, everything will be cleaned up and repolished.

I've had 19"s for 3 years now. Time for something new, and sometimes the 19"s look small w/ the big kit. I may stick w/ 19"s though, still debating.

I've got a choice between two sets of wheels right now through some friends.

20" 5Zigen 5ZR Hyper 3 piece.

or

19" HRE 441R 3 piece w/ polished face and lip.

And right now, i'm leaning toward the 5Zigens. I've wanted them since they were introduced.

I would go with HRE. HRE are forged and I think the 5ZR hyper is cast wheels.

Here's the prettiest picture of all:

Mmmmm......torque.

266ft-lbs by 3700rpm and a peak of 314ft-lb at 7psi. Not too bad through a mostly stock auto. Can't wait to push 9psi w/ the boost controller and spray off the line.
