Is there any paint that can withstand the heat? Or is it just gonna be a waste of time.

I used BBQ black paint to my stock muffler... got rid of the dirty rusted look. Very Easy to do. I got mine at my local Sears hardware.

Cleans up the back a Little bit. A simple mod - I recommend it.

So far no problems with painted muffler.

If you are thinking ANYTHING else ... in terms of color... call uncle ben

Same here, well actually I painted it grey so it looks like aluminum. It also protects against rust and corrosion.

I heard that exhaust wrap will trap moisture and will rust out the pipes fast. I wanted to paint it first and then wrap it, so it will have some protection. Good idea?

Many people use exhaust wrap and if you are concerned about moisture penetrating the fibers, there are some products to prevent that from happening like this one found on Jegs.com.

Its not worth painting the exhaust for anything but looks... when an exhaust rusts, it rusts from the inside out, and there really isn't much you can do to prevent that.

Hm...black bbq paint sounds interesting. So does the color/texture look like Remus and other euro mufflers?

I checked it out real quick.

1.) Krylon BBQ&Stove paint resists 600F continuously and 1200F intermittently.

2.) Krylon High Heat & Radiator resists 1200F intermittently

3.) Duplicolor High Heat w/Ceramic up to 1200F intermittently.

4.) Plasti-Kote BBQ&Woodstove Paint up to 1200F intermittently.

5.) Plasti-Kote Hi-Temp resists up to 1500F!! and says it's ideal for headers, exhaust manifolds, etc... Also comes in black, aluminum, cast iron, white, red, orange, blue. lol...

Based on this info., I think I'll go with option 5... I'm going to paint my muffler, and I'm considering painting my aluminized B-pipe that's on the way too...

The BBQ paint worked for me, I had it laying around.

Now regarding the color. Its satin black, almost flat looking, but a little bit of satin gloss, I personally like it. But since its under the car, Black is Black and satin looks flat (aka dusty and dirt) but the paint had a little texture.

Actually, you are correct. My STOCK muffler looks "kinda like" remus, (I was going for that look), I have bolted rolled square tips to exhaust. Very clean looking and recommended if on a budget. ---- which I always am.

Anyways, for $6 bucks for paint , and ~$20-35 per chrome tip, it definitely made my back end MUCH nicer to look at.
