LOL open header I had to do that once when I was trying to put on my catback one night but then found out it was for a 97+ so there was like a 6" space between the B pipe and test pipe. Louder than the loudest muffler by far.

What type of exhaust is that I'd like to hear it with the exhaust connected.

You are my hero! That is absolutely amazing! Attach that car to a flowmaster with dual exhaust exits and you just managed to make your car sound exactly like an american v8. Perfect!

Cams - $1k
Cattman Headers - $??
V6 Maxima sounding like a 502 Big Block....PRICELESS

You know, I have been thinking about that tonight also, and after many beers I have come to this conclusion. Go all motor and be loud as ***** and sound fast but now REALLY have enough power as boost. Or be stealth and rip ish up with boost...I picked boost...if the cams work with boost, then I am with that.

BTW: Here is the sig for you again.

I wish...
they have to be designed towards one or the other

turbo cams are commonly referred to as "black magic" because very few people can get them right.

The sound from the 2nd vid was too uneven...or maybe its just the vid quality. It needs to be a consistant rumble or something...not have such long gaps btwn. Sounds absolutely awesome nonetheless...always wanted to get the sound of a 5.0 in my Maxima..but this vid will do

Have you even heard a 502?
you should really say a V6 Maxima trying to mimic a lopey V8.
There is simply not enough displacement to scare people, you might scare ricers, but it just is lacking the pure ***** a V8 has. (and Bijan, 426 > 502)

actually $1000 for 4 cams is still pretty expensive. I can get brand new Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cams for $65, and thats not even at cost (close to it, but not at it). I think $500-$650 would be a much more reasonable price.

Love the sound of the second video, despite that, in my opinion, the rumbles are too far apart. Is there any way to mimic this sound without cams in a VQ35?

you cannot close the sound of the "rumbles" because the engine only fires every 120* instead of every 80* like a V8.

Also the only way to mimic it is to make it run like ****. Either by messing with the timing, the fuel, or the air.

tires didn't even break lose on 1st-2nd shift?

if i drove my n/a 5spd, and slammed through first and into second i would make lots of noise. it could be bigger wheels or different tires, but i know a bunch of 5-spd guys that can break lose through first and into second..

i am just curious if it is actually making your car much faster, or just adding noise? (i don't know much about cams and i do know that headers for our car are near worthless).

tire spinnage is no way to measure power

I can slam from first to second and if anything I get one jump from the front end and it hooks&goes, no spinning - I'm on all season (400tread rated) stock sized tires w/ ACT.

we need dynos.
I know a well-designed/matched set of turbo cams would give great gains, but the chance of ever seeing those NOTcustom...

We'll get videos today with the full exhaust on.

The headers and cams definitely made a difference. I ran him with my 97, headers, full cat-back, injen intake, FPR and he slowly walked me from 25-80 and at 80 was about a car ahead of me.

Do you ever have anything good to say about someone elses car but your own....seriously. All I ever see is you patting yourself on your back but when it comes to someone elses projects you just point out the flaws.

I have nothing against you and your car is nice but picking apart his car b/c you can't hear a damn tire chirp between the 1-2 shift is rediculious. Not all tires squeel and if you listened closely it sounds like it breaks loose to me but how would you hear any type of chirp or slip over all that noise.

Anyway the end of my rant, and I'm sure I will get flamed by the bandwagon now.

Now onto my impressions of the car. The idle sounds mean as he11 and I wish you were back in SC like your plates say so I could check this out myself. That lumpy idle

Those are, I'm pleased to say, Cattman Performance headers. The price is $775, including all installation hardware and gaskets. We are the exclusive importer from New Zealand.

We have a few sets left in our warehouse, available for immediate shipment. You'll need to call our order line, 800.759.9920 between 8a-5p MST, M-F.

We'll run out before they arrive, but another batch of headers is in the crate and going on a ship this weekend, due mid-February, and these will also be available from distributors of Cattman Performance parts (including the firm Steve is affiliated with, SW Autoworks -- thanks for the promo Steve!).

lol that was fun. I lost most of my hearing doing it though. WAY too loud for daily driving, but I do plan on the cutout for the track. I put the stock intake manifold and hooked teh catback up yesterday. Feels alot better, especially since my vi hasn't worked in a while. Anyway we will make some more vids today. Anyone interested in the dyno, its on my homepage, or if you have runviewer I'll send you the file.

My $.02

The idle does sound like a small V8 but the WOT high end sounds more Ferrari-ish than anything. Im certain much of the sound comes from those Cattman headers. I have the same headers on my 2002 with stock exhaust and everyone enjoys the sound they make. Other than that I think I want cams now.
