*pictures* Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid - Secret is out
Ionicmax and myself bring the maxima community a full carbon fiber trunk lid. This trunk lid is completely bolt on and guarranties 100% fitament, it will line up with rear quarter panels, bumper and tail lights. There were multiple molds made to ensure perfect design and to allow for stock mounting points and parts to line up like oem (trunk keyhole was shaved for the simple fact that a lot of people shave it off anyway, and it makes for a much easier production unit).
A group deal will be started by mid-late next week, and pricing will be determined then (as well as installed pictures). Obviously the first group deal on these will have the best pricing, so be sure to jump on it as soon as it is posted. This post is to let everyone know that this product is ready to go and that it will be for sale next week. I also wanted to know if the 5th gen and 3rd gen guys would have interest in getting a carbon fiber trunk made as well? We need about 10+ people for 5th and 3rd gens, which I think should happen easily.
Jose and his shop have spent a ton of time on this project and his customer service is beyond great. I personally think that we should reap the benefits of someone interested in making new and custom products (especially when others front the initial costs).
Entire lid..
Another angle..
Close up of inner tail light and carbon fiber weave..
Underside of the trunk lid (will be cleaned up obviously and is a flat black)..
Closer picture of the underside..
As mentioned, installed pictures will come next week with the group deal, but fitament is a 100% guarranty; these pictures do not show the trunk lid wetsanded and buffed, nor the underside edges smoothed out and finished. As far as weight goes, stock trunk lid is 35-40lbs (to my knowledge) and this trunk lid will weigh 8-12lbs.

I might be interested, depending on price and how the product looks on a 4th gen, 100% complete. Keep us updated (I'm sure you will..)
That looks pretty sweet, by the way. Nice weight reduction, too.

I think the prices for these trunk lids will be more than fair, as a comparison to other cars with carbon fiber trunk lids (WRX/Audi A4/BMW $650-900.00). I think it will be hard for people with lighter colored cars to see how it looks on the car, as my car is dark, however I think people know if they want carbon fiber pieces on light cars (you can always paint it if you just want the weight reduction factor).

Good move, Jason!! I wouldn't mind getting in on a 3rd gen deal, as I think it would compliment my charcoal car immensely. Money, for me (and I'm sure about 90% of any other resopndents) will be a factor, but you can 'pencil' me in, pending I can do some 'creative' financing.
(darned crack sales down 35% this month)
DISCLAIMER- Y'all know I'm just kidding about the crack stuff - drug free in '03 for G!!

Hopefully I will answer all of the questions asked:
This trunk lid is obviously much lighter than the stock unit, and will definitely lift much easier, but not to the point that it will be shot up off the car. If our trunk was on shocks, it may be an issue, but the tensioners are to make lifting easier and won't add any hassle.
We removed the trunk keyhole because it adds some complexity to the design and would probably bring the price up quite a bit. I don't know if you have ever tried to take off the key slot, but it is not an easy task, and part of this design is to keep it as easy to install as possible. I have yet to hear of anyone, anyone, having problems with their trunk popper not working (unless the battery is dead), and in that case if you need to get in the trunk you can take off the door panel and tap the power wire as a last resort. To have a keyhole punched is not an option that we will offer, but would be the hardest thing to add if it was so desired (it's more cost effective for us to do a shaved unit, then to punch a hole and make a second mold).
The underside of this lid is a flat black, and is made of fiberglass. Carbon fiber is one of the strongest materials when laid correctly and will flex less than a metal, as does fiberglass. Almost 95% of all high end car stereo setups are made up of fiberglass enclosures because there is so little flex and chance for resonance (from what I have been told). This trunk lid will not rattle as much as stock, if at all.
This trunk lid is obviously for the 97-99 4th gen'ers, but as mentioned a 95-96 one should be out in january (by the time this group deal is nearing an end). I will provide more information on this shortly, when I receive it.
I really have to see a substantial amount of interest, firm interest, from 5th and 3rd generation guys to get a mold made and have those units produced. However, I really want to have them made just to keep people from not feeling left out.

I most likely won't be a part of the group deal but I will probably look at getting one in the future when the reviews come out.

My fiberimages hood weighs 12lbs, mine does at least, or my scale was wrong. I don't know what the CM/Redline hoods weigh, but mine also doesn't have a skeleton.
And as mentioned, if we can get enough interest a trunk lid can be made for 5th gens easily.

?'s about carbon fiber weaves
for bringing more parts to the maxima community.
With all of the carbon fiber parts out now from Ionicdesigns are they keeping all of the weave patterns matching on their products?
For instance:
To my knowledge Ionic designs has not produced a hood.
Is a maxima going to look stupid/weird with a Fiber Images hood / Ionicdesigns trunk lid and (may god stike me down) for mentioning carbon fiber altezas?
PS. I wouldnt touch a alteza with my naked hand.

That is incredible. I just posted something 3 days ago talking about why there isn't a CF Trunklid. Once the 95 product is ready, mark me down for one in the spring. Also, what about price, roughly?
