Sell or keep?

As some of you know, I recently bought an IS. My wife has asked me to sell the maxima. I have invested a lot of time and money into this car and love driving it. I still have stuff that I want to do. My engine will be built soon, Quaife LSD, big brakes, GT turbo ... I can't bear to part with it!

I want to boost the IS also ... I want it all!

I don't know how to post a poll but would like to know what you think. Should I sell or keep?

Your in a bad situation. If you make your own custom kit for the IS it should not cost you 6K probably half of that if not 5K. Weight your options which route you want to take. Seems like that RWD has got you hooked. My wife wants an IS300 as well. I have to teach how to drive 5 speed therefor she can get a 6 speed which she wont regret

exactly why does your wife want to sell it? My wife sometimes makes these snap "you're going to tear down our barn!" statements but if I just wait it out we're both usually happier that I didn't actually follow her orders right away.

Well we have three cars now. I got the third car so I can build the Maxima. I am slow at doing stuff, partly no time with travel and partly got kids so not much time for the max and it would take me a long time to build engine.

My wife is not from the US and so third car concept is unacceptable when there are only two drivers in the house ... where she came from, a civic costs US$60,000. So not many people with one car much less two or three.

Fortunately, I just got a nice raise, so I am still working on keeping it. Oh well, keep trying!

if you don't HAVE to sell it... don't sell it...

I'm also trying to get a Lexus IS300 from my parents as a graduation gift.. if I get it... I will have to part out the parts and might have to sell the max.. if not my dad will keep it for himself...

so don't sell it unless you absolutely have to...

The maxima is a great car!

Nig,

I dont know of any rich guys IMO so... if you are a regular guy like most of us and even if you have a great,well-paying job... word has it that you should only have one play car and one get around car. you cant have two cars and mod both of them... and YOU'RE MARRIED TOO!!! Forget it man. Get rid of one. I dont care how good your job is. I'm married too so I know. You gotta think home improvements, 401k, mutual funds, kids etc... You can get away with one play car but 2 NO WAY! If you are building your Maxima motor, you'll be able to get waaay more power than any damn IS. I think you could have even beaten down an IS w/the stock setup! Its a no brainer to me man!!!

Just let your wife know that you won't be able to get anywhere close to the amount of money for your car you put in. Then give her a big hug.

I had the opportunity to make that decision once, between a 2001 IS 300 and my 1992 300Zx. I did the stupid thing and sold the my love, my Z. Well, the car gods did not like that because the IS-300 got wrecked. Keep your maxima, you'll really enjoy that car.

Keep the max but to make the wife happy put the max for sell for a very high price that way only a crazy person would pay that much. so if someone does buy it for lets say 18k you just came up on some major cash.

Turn the Max into a weekend machine and drive the IS stock daily. Nothing wrong with a stock IS in my opinion. Not the fastest car, but very classy.

I say keep it though, you got way too much money invested into that thing.

I'll probably finish the motor build and call it done. I am having a hard time deciding at which point I should stop. I live just 4.7 miles from work now so the engnie has just warmed up when I get to work.

Does she want you to sell it because the Maxima is sitting, or do you need the $? A 97-98 Max does not fetch much $$$, maybe 6-8k, so if you don't need the $$$ I'd say keep it. Usually it seems g/f or wives want things sold because they like to keep the house uncluttered, so unused cars, Harley Davidsons, boats get put up for sale.

Your car is pretty much the coolest thing ever IMO, it would be sucha shame to sell it. If you put it up on ebay or something I doubt you would get even half the money back that you spent on modding it. Money is really besides the point though, that car is a part of you, thanks to your work that "family sedan" will smoke anything on the road with very few exceptions. Im sure you could have some fun with the IS, but it'll never have the same sleeper value, which is priceless IMO. Your kids are really lucky, im not sure if they are old enough to realize it yet, but out of all the cool hobbies a father could have..
