My good friend just bought a 350Z actually. Because I taught him to how to drive a manual transmission, he thought it'd be only fair to let me give him a few more leason with his car. I just fell in love with car. Shifter is amazingly short-throwing as well as very accurate. Body feels so solid, nothing like my Maxima. Low-end power feels a little more torque than our cars, but this VQ is very different from my 97. Well, when he hits 1,500 miles he's going to bring the Z back and we'll really open it up. Right now, I told him not to over-rev past 4K and to take it easy. Can't wait...800 more miles to go...then the real fun begins.

from a roll it'll be a close race, from a stop the 350Z will just keep pulling

So I just set the cruise control again and mind my own business, and all of the sudden he comes up next to me. I give him the thumbs up, and he hits it. I'm in 5th gear so I just hang back and he lets off right away.

I downshift to 3rd at ~70mph (sweet spot in 3rd, ESPECIALLY with the VI). He looks at me...I look at him, and we both hit it. Amazingly I put about 3/4 of a carlengh on him up to 110mph where he lets off. I couldn't believe I just beat a 350z!!!!!

He came up again and we both waved and he give me a thumbs up a smiles.
I was probably an automatic...but who knows, a lot of new 350z 6-speeds are trapping about what I trap in the 1/4. Anyway....believe it or not guys...a bolt-on max is "capable" of hanging with and possibly taking out a 350z.
A 350Z is not the same car as a maxima. Its faster, handles better, and all around more powerful. If your story is remotly true, then thats the closest you'll get. a 350Z stock will rape nearly ANY Maxima in ANY kind of driving competition

wait till the Z owners break their cars in a bit... very few even have 3,000 miles yet. my friend "played with" cars in his new spec v with 300 miles on it. i wouldnt call that a loss, or even a race at that point. when i get my Z, i wont be racing it till at least 4,000 or so.

Ok guys...you can stop trying to "lecure" me on how awesome the Z is.

I really don't care what the Z is "capable" of...nor how I would fare against it in any other driving situation.

FACT: I ran a 350z...and beat him...if you don't believe me..fine. I really could give a rats a$$. I was simply sharing my experience.

FameMax - you have a lot to learn about cars. I know of nissan sentras that can DESTROY a vette around a racetrack...A car is what YOU make it. If everyone left their cars "stock", there would be no fun or mystery about other cars.

BTW - I'd like to see a 350z try and run against Cheston on Buttonwillow.....

Brian doesn't post BS kill stories. His car will walk away from me on the highway, the only reason I post faster ETs than he does is because of my slicks. Negating the launch, he has the faster car.

Yes our cars are less powerful than the Z, but we are also lighter. People trying to "lecure" him on driving situations or the potential of the Z is laughable. You look at the times 350Zs are posting and then look at his. Take into account the 350Z's RWD launch advantage (not to mention it's low end torque advantage). Put it all together and you have 2 VERY evenly matched cars from a highway roll.

Yeah it what I am thinking.. My friend just got new Z and I think I can run with him pretty evenly on the highway roll.

im a #1 hated of Vettes... but i dont think you know A sentra, let alone several that will "DESTROY" a vette around a course.

and the point of the break in story was that if you run 14.4+s then the Z was not broken in yet, and running it to redline, OR it was a pretty bad driver, or maybe yet, an auto??

the basic question is what can a 350z do in a quarter mile and what can your maxima do in a quarter mile. If the 350 can do better then its only because u r the better driver that u won obviously. I mean i always thought the 350 was doing 13's stock and possibly high 12's??? who knows but wow that's a great feat if you beat a 350z....

Besides the fact that he had 3.5L and you have 3.0L your cars are pretty much the same on the highway. Both have VI better exaust intake etc. Then all you have to worry about the weight to power ratio and gearing for highway. I believe you though, its possible.

No, they run 14s with high 13s possible. 12s are dreaming for a stock 350Z. A magazine got one to run a 13.9, the rest have run 14s, and the few owners who have taken them to the track on the various 350Z boards have run 14s. Those are the 6spds mind you.

You know what guys...it's useless to argue back and forth about this. I was sharing an experience, and people come on here and start with the "what if's". All I can say now is this was my experience, take if for what you want, and stop trying to tell me how "fast and awesome" the Z is.

I think someone should delete or lock this thread. It's served its purpose, it has incited anger and controversy and a lot of bad feelings and name-calling .

I went to a Z show and saw a bunch of new 350Zs and I kept thinking, my Maxima can beat any of these cars. The 350Z is impressive looking, but its performance is not.

And that is with a stock car tested by the magazines. When they start to bolt on parts, and better yet Forced Induction (Stillen, Greddy)we will see the true results.

Good Job Brian
