In the last few weeks, I've been picking up a few items to allow me the ability to do some different forms of media blasting. The cabinet does a good job of keeping the mess down, but the Eastwood soda blaster has done some really nice work on a few items that I've familiarized myself with the process. I do think that I'm going to need to pick up a larger/more powerful compressor to move the amount of air that's needed for the soda blaster however as the 33 gallon runs non-stop.
you'll need a MINIMUM of 60 gallons and 10CFM to run a blaster. and get one with a 100% duty cycle rating. that little buzzbox compressor in the corner in that pic will self-destruct in a matter of hours. already paid that price...

I've come to realize that in a very short amount of time. The 33 gallon just doesn't provide what I'm going to need long-term for me to be happy/satisfied with this setup.
Matt93 the CH cast iron pump one you have....can that be run 100% continuous or have you ever tried? I was concerned to day using a die grinder, it seemed like it kept running continously. I have the same pump & motor as yours but on a smaller tank, and the guy that sold it said his customers run those continuously with no problems....don't know if he's making it up though.
I noticed the cheaper die grinder I have isn't so good on the air consumption. Had I paid 100 bucks more, I looked at a CP model that seemed lower CFM required.
But yeah.. I've run it for hours on end with no problems. sandblasting, grinding, whatever. it's held up to everything I've done with it. Using a sandblaster like the soda can above, it maintained ~90psi with the blaster running wide open for 1/2 hour straight. the compressor never shut off, but at least it didn't go below 90psi. (I usually have my regular set about 90psi, so I never saw a drop in pressure coming out the end of the hose).
When dealing with die grinders and sanders and whatnot, you definitely get what you pay for. The better the tool, then the less noise they make and the more work they do. They use less air too. I had a cheapie $19 harbor freight die grinder, and it sounded more like an air sprayer nozzle than a grinder. It barely had enough torque to cut through aluminum foil, and it emptied the tank pretty quick.
a friend borrowed that one and never returned it. oh darn. I finally broke down and bought an IR grinder over Christmas, and it's a WAAAAAAY better tool. less noise, more power, less air consumption than the cheapie. It was about $70..

Yup - the Campbell Hausfeld ones are the best. For the small compressors they 'own the market'. There's a US brand called Eagle that claims to be 'professional' but i've heard they are lower quality china components. I'm pretty sure the 1500.00 Ingersol Rand wheel barrow one is the Emerson motor & CH Pump. The small Speedaire stuff is all CH too by the way - sold at WAY higher prices and a green tank. The guy that sold me mine worked for CH and told me how it's the same CH setup but put on different tanks with different stickers. I always thought they were crap consumer stuff...found in Walmart etc.... Actually Matt, If I had a 3/4" Impact 1000ft-lbs, When my parallel link hex nuts froze from the rust, if I had access to one of these beasts, would it have done the job? My little CP 425ft-lbs was able to get off the front wheel bearing nuts by the way....after never been removed for 16 yrs. I was surprised. But it couldn't do it for the parallel link nuts. I tried heating and re-heating 10 times - penetrant....buring the rubber bushings by accident.
If a Speedaire guy tells you their stuff is just marked up CH, you can probably believe it.
If a CH guy tells you their stuff is the same as Speedaire, don't believe it.
no, the 3/4" impact probably wouldn't have gotten those bolts loose either. your car is so damn rusted that everything is pretty much siezed into one big piece of rust. no wrench will fix that.

My ex-girlfriend used to call it "Rusty Dusty Maxima"......"My Poor Boyfriend in a Poor Car"....."Garbage Car".......I love it. Actually something funny, when the O2 sensor fell out and dangled on the road, she went and told all her sisters how I was "Happy" that it rusted off. And that i'm crazy because I was laughing. And it's true, I was happy, because I knew I had more repairs to do
RE: The Speediare - it's true, it's the Emerson Motor (previously Dayton on the Speedaire models), and the CH Pump. CH basically makes those pumps that say USA on the side. They make other pumps too, and stick them on other colored tanks.

Added a mig to the collection. Lincoln SP-170T which I picked up off craigslist near Cleveland. Was listed for $600, got it for $350.
This cart is fairly flimsy, so I'm not sure if I'll stick with it or not.
Here is the only issue so far, seems like there was some denting around the curve. Not sure whether it is affecting performance or not and whether or not I'll need to replace the gun.
