I was wondering that. It was taking way too long. I take it then you are refering to a plasma cutter. Too bad I couldn't rent one. Anyways, to speed it up as much as I could, I actually used an old fashioned hacksaw, and it went much faster. Those end bolts were actually positioned so you could fit the hand saw.
I did get through them, but I was actually cutting through the diameter of the M14 Hex hut & the rod through it, so it with pretty thick...the die grinder did about 80% of the work - I had to cut it right at the washer, and in fact it ground down 1/4 of the washer, just to make sure I didn't finish cutting and there were these left over bits that wouldn't let the bolt slide out through the strut.
