Pre Engine Rebuild Question.

i brought up the topic today at work and the guys where telling me that they would pore a quart of ATF in the engine then run it at High idle 2k rpm for 30 minutes before pulling and tearing down the motor.

the idea is the high amount of detergent in the ATF would super clean the oil passages making it easy to get them cleaner after the its been taken apart.

has anyone done anything like this?
will seafoam work as well?
do you have any further engine over haul tips?

i plan to tear down a VG30 and 302 in the next year.

thank you for reading

I don't know the answer to your question, but on a side note related to your rebuild, if you are interested in comparing notes 300 on your re-ring / valve job when the time comes, I would be interested. Maybe create a guide for the ORG. I too am interested in buying a broken JY engine (VG) and attempting the overhaul sometime next year, once the engine stand will be available. I bought a new trans jack the other night too, which i'll post a pic in the Garage tools thread.

The question is, what will be the cost be for ALL the parts for a major overhaul. Ideally I would like to overhaul the original VG in the max now, but that downtime will be too long to deal with.
