Husky and Craftsman

Hi. I just heard from a reliable sorce that Husky and Craftsman are one company, with the products made in one factory. I also heard that you can bring a broken Craftsman product to Home Depot and have it exchanged and vise versa.

Is this true?

In addition to my source, I once saw a sign/poster in Home Depot stating that if you have any broken Craftsman tools you can bring them in for an exchange.

I have yet to compare prices to see if one is cheaper than the other, but I could use some new tools, so I better check it out.

Hmm...now that you mention it, I think I saw that sign once before too. But eh, Sears is closer to my house anyways.

Home Depot is closer to my home. There are two within 15 minutes of my house, and another less then a half hour from my home.

Are there more Home Depot stores then Sears, or is that the case around where I live?

Home Depot is very good with returns, even on items that aren't broken, so if you have a job that requires a odd socket or tool, and use it once, if your not happy about it just return it.

well, there's an easy way to find out....go to HD and ask!

I personally don't like the design of most Husky tools, but i have a few and they've worked fine and not broken or anything...

Danaher Corporation, my company's parent, is the parent company to Craftsman tools and Matco and Napa. I have never heard they had Husky too. I have been to one of the Craftsman plants and they did not make Husky. That was 3 years ago though.
I don't know.
Cambell Hausfeild makes Husky air compressors.

What we are looking for is to see if we can exchange Craftsman tools at Home Depot, and Husky tools at Sears. We know Home Depot takes returns of broken tools.

I don't think Husky and Craftman are the same. I work at Home Depot and people have tried to return Craftman tools but we don't accept them because it is not something Home Depot carries. I know Kmart does now. What about going there if not Sears?

IIRC Stanly is made out of the USA. On the last Husky product I purchased, it was written "made in the USA" on the label.

Kmart actually bought Sears and now they have quite a few craftsman tools in stock now, mostly hand tools and lower end power tools.

IMO the Sears/HD connection doesn't hold water.

All you guys are way off. Stanley did make Craftsman tools until Sears was "merged into" Kmart. When Kmart came out of bankruptcy in 2003 they used the excess cash provided by the appreciation in their stock to buy shares of Sears stock. Eventually a controlling interest was aquired by Eddie Lambert and was "merged" into Kmart.

After the merger the the rights to manufacture of Craftsman Tools was transfered to the Danaher Corporation based out of Washingdon DC.

Danaher makes; Craftsman, Matco, Fluke Meters, Delta power tools, Jacobs Electronics, Armstrong, Gear wrench, K-D Tools, Allen Tools and several others.

Standley makes:Stanley, Proto, Husky, Zag, Jensen, Bostitich, Atro, and Lowes belovid Cobalt.

They are two separate companies, and they will not exchange the others tools.

The connection between Sears and Home Depot is this (from my knowledge of once working at HD). The company that makes Ridgid power tools (Home Depot) used to be
