Why are talking about oils and filters again? I personally have posted in many other threads with the same questions.

Have you considered actually reading through the subforum that's designed for these questions?

They've been asked time and again, and all it takes is a little reading...

FTR, only the '95 FSM shows 4 5/8. '96-'08 show the above (well, 4.2 for '05-'08, but same thing).

'09 is up to 4 7/8 quarts, interesting.

this is crazy. 95/9 is the same motor but the fsms have different info between years - just like the cold/hot plug use description

depends. my manual states 4.25 as well.

BUT i always require 4.5 to get it to the full line on the dipstick.

I even fill the filter and let it soak in. you'll be surprised how much you can fit in it.

you understand this is because the synthetic cleans away the crud that hid your leak right?

synthetic isn't the problem, it simply showed you the problem.

I just dump in 4.0q each time I change the oil & filter. This fills it to between 3/4 and Full on the dipstick.

As a side note, FWIW, I've had a 10W-30 fill of Pennz Plat Syn w/ M1-110 filter since 12/2007. It now has only ~3000 miles on the oil. This car has been mostly in storage. This is why I haven't changed it out yet. Will probably change it out at 2 years.

So far 19+ months...oh the humanity!

Sleeping very well at night, and the sun will still rise w/ that old oil in there..

Don't use a nissan OEM filter. That's just a Fram in disguise. I've seen many teardowns online just go to google and type in Mobil 1 vs Nissan OEM filter teardown. If you use mobil 1 oil, use mobil 1 oil filters too.

No, use Mobil1 filters because its a better filter. Not just because you are using Mobil1 oil. They are mutually exclusive and are not tied to each other.

It is nice that several auto supply places around here bundle Syn Oils with Mobil1 filters like Penz, Mobil1 and Castrol. Couple bucks off per quart and a "free" filter.

Another vote for the mobil 1 filter. I started buying them because they have the check valve that keeps the oil from draining after you turnoff the engine. Thjis ensure oil will be in the engine at start.

I've been told the Mobil 1 is specially designed for synthetic oils, but I don't know if that's just manufacturer's hype.

p.s. regarding oil change interval - I shoot for 5K on each oil change, but usually I look at the oil around that time and if it's not dirty, I might drive another 1-2K on it.

well you can use it with any oil you want. i use it because although expensive, its the best filter out there, although the amsoil drones will argue theirs is better. it has synthetic filter material instead of plain paper, so supposedly there are smaller fibers that allow for more filtering area. so less sludge floating around your engine. i immediately saw a difference in the oil drains from my dyno drain to my syn drain 4000 miles later.

For both my 95 and 2001 Maximas, I simply poured an entire jug of Mobil 1 synthetic in (5 qts). I know they took a little less according to the manuals, but a little extra oil never caused a problem...
