I hear you, but such a small increase could be do to a number of factors including, but not limited to, how much gas you were able to pump into the tank on your previous fill, weather/temperature, traffic, speed, A/C on or off, etc. Assuming you ran your car 400 miles on the last tank, which would be essentially bone dry @ 22 mpg, a difference of only .4 gallons on the fill would give you a variation of .5 mpg. If you ran fewer miles before filling, it would take less of a variation in your fill to indicate a .5 mpg difference in your fuel economy...a variation of only .2 gallons on a 200 mile run would generate the same illusion. I regularly get a .5 mpg difference or more between tanks, and I check & record my gas consumption with each fill...I typically put ~450 miles per week/tank on my car.
IMO the best way to determine fuel economy is to record it over a long term and normalize/do a trend analysis of the readings. Unless you've done that, the difference could be due to a number of factors...
