HOW MUCH COOLANT LOSS IS NORMAL IN THIS HOT WEATHER?

I just replaced my Rad and all the hoses. Is it normal for my Radiator Reservoir to be sinking 200mL per week?

After I filled the Rad up properly when it was new, a week after that I had to add another 400mL to bring the tub back to the MAX line.

I never remembered the level in the tub moving that much in the past, and I haven't detected any leaks so far.

Is this normal?

200ml = 6oz, or half a soda can. That's a lot to lose in a week, and is definitely not normal. Either you have a simple leak, or bigger issues.

Just keep an eye on it. Maybe you didn't "burp" the system and fill it properly when you installed the new radiator. Maybe you'll be ok now.

That would be my guess.

Let us know if this (coolant loss) stablizes. I'm with The Wizard and gizzsdad...if you weren't losing coolant prior to the installation of the new radiator/hoses, you probably have/had some air trapped in the system and it's working it's way out.

I assume all your hose clamps and the radiator drain plug are tight? Did you happen to replace the radiator cap with one with a higher pressure release?

Hi guys - i'll respond to all of you with an update.

I followed the burping technique as in the FSM - it took REALLY long to fill the radiator - it burped very slowly. So here are the amounts I have filled so far:

7.15L Into Radiator
700mL Into Reservoir
400mL Top Up 1st Week Into Reservoir
300mL Top Up Recently Into Reservoir
8.55L TOTAL SO FAR INCLUDING TOP UPS

FSM COOLANT CAPACITY
8.3L + 600mL Reservoir Tank = 8.9L TOTAL

I'll keep you posted in 1 more week to see the loss. Note that when doing the flush procedure, there may still have been a fair amount of tap water left in the RH Engine section, as I could only locate the LH Bolt for the engine block.

You'll know if you have a loss.

More so if your dripping, you'll see white smoke and you can smell the thing.
