I picked up some of this stuff at auto zone and changed my oil with it on saturday. I'm hoping maybe this will alleviate some of my burning problems seeing as how i'm going with a thicker oil and one designed to decrease burnoff. I know with a oil burning 3.5, there's not much you can do short of changing the rings and valve covers, but I'm gonna try to lessen it as much as I can with my oil choice. I'll keep everybody updated on how much it burns in comparison with regular oil. What do you guys think?
higher mileage usually means 10w30 vs 5w30 - somewhat thicker so older cars with higher mileage on dino oils will be less likely to burn it.
I personally use the reg mobil1 5w30 in my 04 maxima with k&n oil filters for longer life intervals. Switched to mobil1 5w30 truck and suv for hard working gasoline engines - slighty better @ the same cost.

10w-30 may or may not be thicker than a 5w-30...it depends when you compare measurements. At zero degrees, the 5w-30 should flow better (be thinner) than a 10w-rated oil will...but both are comparatively thick at this temperature anyway. However, at the other end of the spectrum (100 deg C), both oils should fall with the range of a 30-weight, and some 5w-30's are in fact marginally thicker than the same oil in 10w-30 formulation.

if you are already running mobile 1 syn then i cant see it hurting anything but i dont think u will see a big(if any) improvement, but if u go tell us bc i might switch. i burn a bit of oil too but nothing im worry about.
I've been using the high mileage M1 10-30w for two OCI's (10k mi) now. I cannot be certain it's the OIL, but i have DEFINITELY noticed a 50% drop in my oil consumption rate after switching to this oil.
I just had my Rear Valve cover AND PCV replaced - and I'm curious to see how this may effect my oil consumption rate.
As info: I was burning up to 1.5qts every 5k mi. now, I'm under .25qts in 2k miles....and those miles were HIGHWAY MILES, where I typically burn much more oil than in day-to-day city driving.

I've been using Mobil1 5W-30 lately and I used the high mileage a time or two but I dont really monitor my oil burnage too closely. I keep oil in the trunk and add when needed.
Does anyone with the cold-startup tapping notice it more when their oil is low?

yeah, it was probably the valve cover and PVC that did it... i noticed no difference in oil consumption
I've been adding the high mileage version in between oil changes, don't notice any change in oil comsumption (a quart every 2000-2500 miles) but I may have to run only the high mileage version to see if it helps. High mileage oils have more detergents and seal conditioners (to prevent leaks) than regular versions.
I just picked up a new PCV at my Nissan dealer, I'll swap it out and see if it helps. Plus, I will probably do plugs and intake spacers in the near future, minus whale change the rear valve cover while I am at it.

I had been using 89 Octane E-10 ethanol blend for the past 3k miles, and JUST swtched-back....and VOILA! -- i started burning oil AGAIN!!--
Somebody who knows more than me about BTu values, and compression ratios needs to try this one...because I don't get it!!!
I was burning practically no oil on the E-10, but getting less fuel economy, and some knock.
But the numbers didn't add-up for cost vs. fuel-economy so I switched back to Premium...and as SOON as I did -- I started burning oil again!!
Fuk me and this crazy-ass VQ engine!!!
