I don't have any experience with Mobil 1 ATF, but I've been using AMSOIL synthetic ATF for about 20 years (~700,000 miles worth) with excellent results. I also sell a lot of AMSOIL to our members through the Group Deals forum and have received very positive feedback on the product.
I typically purchase my cars new and convert them to synthetics very early, but I recently purchased an Infiniti that was converted to AMSOIL at the 60K point. Of the three Nissans I own/have owned and installed AMSOIL in, one has well over 200K; and the other two have roughly 110K each with never an issue. My MO on the Nissans is to do a drain and refill every 30K.
I have also successfully used AMSOIL ATF in a Ford van which was notorious for transmission problems; a Honda Odyssey (02, first year for the 5-spd auto) which was also notorious for transmission issues; and my kid's Chevy Cavalier and none of these vehicles ever gave a hint of a transmission problem. The transmission pans on the Cavalier and Ford looked like new inside after running the fluid for about 60K without changing. Honda had a recall on the 02's to inspect the transmission and replace it if there were signs of discoloration of the gears due to excessive heat, but mine passed and never did have an issue...but I used (AMSOIL) synthetic ATF in the vehicle.
For what it's worth, I also know an individual who's a transmission specialist at a Chevy dealership. He uses nothing but AMSOIL in his own personal vehicles. I would definitely recommend synthetic ATF over petroleum fluid.
