Changing axles on auto - how much ATF needed?

I'm about to change the axles on my wife's 99 I30 auto. I know some of the ATF will drain out when changing both axles. Roughly how much will drain out? I need to go ahead and buy enough quarts ahead of time so I can finish the job all at once.

Also, what fluid is recommended?

I had about 1.25 L (Canadian, eh?) come out when I changed the passenger side axle.

Before the question comes up, I don't have a tranny leak at the oil seal.

No tranny fluid will come out. You don't have to drain anything. That only applies to the manuals since they don't have a sump.
