SuperTech 75w/90 gear oil

I been using SuperTech 75w/90 since I changed my clutch almost 10k miles ago. It feels fine, gears switch normal, however should I change it out and get with Mobil 1 75w/90 which is gl5 rated?

Do not use GL5 gear oil! I suspect you are not using GL4, because it isn't readily available.

Locally I can get it at Mr. Lube and Pennzoil lube joints. Mr. Lube is a Canadian franchise. Try a Pennzoil location in your area if you aren't using GL4.

I've read the stickies as well as 8 billion opinions about gl-4 vs. gl-5.
Most people say its a freeking mortal sin if you use gear oil thats not strictly gl-4.

The Nissan dealership at which my dad works thinks otherwise...They don't carry a gl-4 specific, it's either a multigrade or just gl-5, I don't remember. My dad and the other mechanics think I'm crazy for insisting on gl-4 only. They say that the gl-5 is superior to the gl-4 (not just different, but superior...?) and by carrying what they do, they can meet the needs of people who need gl-4 and gl-5. Basically they're saying that if you need gl-4, we give you gl-5 cuz it's better. They've obviously had no adverse effects from using the gl-5...so what's the big deal?!?!

Does they FSM say GL-4 ONLY? What is written before GL-5 came out?
how do we KNOW we need GL-4 ONLY and WHY?!

The designation of the oil (GL-4 or GL-5) has nothing to do with which lubricant is "better". It has everything to do with which oil is properly formulated for the needs of your transmission.

GL-5 oils contain significantly more EP additives than GL-4 lubes do, and those additives have been proven to affect the operation of synchronizers and to have an adverse effect on the soft metals used in fwd transaxles. GL-5 lubes are intended primarily for hypoid gears typically used in axles operating under various combinations of high speed/shock-load and low speed/high torque conditions.

Mine does. And it does not list GL-5 as an alternative.

Because the smart people who design the components of the vehicle, those with advanced engineering degrees and a thorough understanding of metallurgy and lubricants, say we do.

For the reasons I cited in the first section, above.
