Fluids and LubricantsMotor oil, transmission oil, radiator fluid, power steering fluid, blinker fluid... wait, there is no blinker fluid. Technical discussion and analysis of the different lubricants we use in our cars.
Can the dealership do synthetic oil changes?
Do they do it? Is it worth it or I should buy my oil and do it myself?
What about engine warranty if I do it myself?
I think that they do a lil car inspection at the same time depending on the mileage so it might be worth it to always do it at the dealership so they check out stuff?

If you keep your receipts and document when you did the oil change they can't deny your warranty. Its the same if you take it to jiffy lube or they do it. If you wanted to get anal you could take a pic of the odometer with the receipt next to it etc but they can usually tell from the condition of the motor if the oil has been regularly maintained.

My dealership does synthetic oil changes upon request. They say they use mobil 1. It runs about $60-70 though. I do it when I have a free oil change coupon so I just pay the difference. I'm planning to ask them if I can bring them my own oil to use and see if that would be cheaper.

The dealer can if you want to pay like 130$$ for them to do it. You can do it yourself and keep all receipts and track your mileage ar do what I do take it to a local repair shop and let them do it cost half the price as the dealer and you get a paper trail. I tried the do-it yourself on my 350z engine had oil blow by at 11k miles but I had all paper work form Auto Zone were a bought the oil and filters and took pictures of the mileage, almost did not work was a diffcult process. Just take it to a local shop.

The dealer will not use synthetic unless the car calls for it and ours dosent or you ask them for it. Just stay away from the dealership unless you have prepaid maintemance.
Um, and what about the regular maintenance that nissan does at every X miles ?
tranny oil, filters, coolant, etc etc ?
They will do anything you ask them to do for a fee. Going to the dealer for an oil change when you can do it yourself is down right crazy.
And if you think they are "inspecting" things for your safty, you are also nuts. The only things they are inspecting are things they can try and talk you into doing. And some have no ethics and will try to get you to do things that dont need doing if they think they can slide it past you.

Man up and change your own oil people! Well if you live in an apartment, I guess that's a different story.
I am not believing these dealer oil change prices. I would change my oil at a friend/relative's house if I had an apt. They cannot deny you warranty unless they prove to you lack of oil changes caused the problem. I simply log in my maintanence book the milage and date i change it. I have filter boxes saved as well. You should keep all receipts, if super cautious. but following the conservative OCIs in the manual, it is very unlikely you have to worry.
oh and see all those threads at the top that say STICKY ?
read all of them. you will see answers to questions you haven't thought of yet. search helps too for questions.
