Most don't, some peopel say Honda still does.

Your lab results will show additives that look like "break-in oil" but its usually just the assembly lube that is mixed in with oil.

Changes mine at 1K, 5K with Dino oil

At 10K miles I put in synthetic blend

From 15K on its Mobil 1 full syn.

I drive a lot though so 5,000 is every 2-3 months for me

Nooo, you won the idiot award actually..

Hello there!!

Okay I would like to hear some experienced opinions from you more veteran guys out there. Thanks.

I drive 130 miles a day for my commute and work 4 days a week. Some weeks, 5. But mostly 4.

My car just hit 1200 miles today and the owners manual says thats the break in period.

My commute is 85% highway, so pretty much I'm cruising around 65-75 mph.

What intervals and what kind of oil do you all reccommend?! Thanks in advance!

The owner's manual that came with my 1999 Maxima has two oil change interval recommendations, depending on the conditions it is driven in. It recommends 7500 miles or 6 months for easy conditions, and 3750, or 3 months for more adverse conditions. These recommendations are for regular, non-synthetic oil. Anyway, 3750 is 1/2 of 7500, and that is where this number comes from. Inasmuch as I have been retired for the last 6 years, I do my oil changes every 6 months, or about every 3000 miles. I have owned my Maxima since April of 1999, and it presently has 53,000 miles on it. It has NEVER required a single mechanical repair.

I am using the mobil 1 filter and mobil 5-20, at start up sometimes I hear the "rod knocking sound". Could this be from using the 5-20? I had thougt at 81k that the switch to a full synthetic would still be a good idea. Should I go to the 5-30 as others had suggested or stay with the 5-20? I want this car to last and will take any comments with a grain of salt. Also since I got the car at 81k, I have changed oil at 3750. The dealership i bought it from used motorcraft 5-20 blend and I thought the blend was just a myth for anything good. Someone want to elaborate for me.

oil is cheap if your considering keeping it for the long haul i
would change it 600 miles why? to drain the factory assembiley
lube thats still in there that nissan used for

lubing engine parts like your cam,
crank shaft, etc and not to mention the metal shavings that are
circulating in there.
